Its rightful due.
.
Celebrating this today in all its raucous entirety when the time was right. Certainly put a smile on my face.
.
These performers, this crowd, this night, these few minutes of West Coast Ballroom during
FKA Twigs 2026 Coachella set,
these are my people.
On stage, in this crowd, in this desert, this night.
.
Pure pure freedom.
.
No one hurting anyone.
No one telling anyone who to be or not to be.
No one saying this or they or we do not belong.
.
I am confident that not anyone under this crazy
Mojave tent this night would agree with me on anything, much less everything.
.
I am also confident we ALL were, as Dashaun Wesley said, “ready to vogue in this motherfucker.”
.
It really is not about crowd size.
.
To each his own. A UFC fight, debating the Salem witch trials. Knock yourself out.
.
Not disheartened today.
Let them try taking away this hard won freedom from the people of this expanding country.
.
Just try putting all of our wonderful shit back in the bottle.
As we reflect in all of our own ways today, just remember
if pushed to the brink, if faced with losing everything we can and will once again pick up pitchforks and muskets.
.
Better to pay very close attention.
Extraordinary things happen.
We live in interesting times and the shape of a future is being determined.
Don’t lose heart.
Celebrate something.

Cars and Love
Love and Cars.
.
A love letter.
Remembering daddy.
We shared a lot.
That Thunderbird.
If a newborn has a memory
then almost my first is
that Thunderbird.
He literally carried me into that car
for my very first trip home.
A fever dream that has lasted
a lifetime.
Several lifetimes.
His George. His Model A
started for him in high school and continued
a bumpy and beautifully extraordinary
life that continues today with my brother.
He built that car.
Few know I drove it everyday to my first summer job between college semesters. It was the only car left for me to drive. It was in a ragged period in
the 70’s but it was a blast.
.
That ‘65 GTO.
6.5 liters. Four on the floor
and four kids in the back seat
not a seat belt between us.
My mother indulged him.
I loved it.
I shared the thrill of not giving up on a two door sports car.
.
In 1969 the GTO had to go. He wanted, I wanted a 1969 yellow Dodge Charger. He test drove it.
Kept coming back to it.
But not meant to be and so started
the stepping stone predictable path of
real family cars.
,
But he indulged me,
right alongside me as I craved Porsches, Jaguars, and Corvettes, and test drove my first car the 280Z with me. It was in my genes.
Nearly 10 years later, me just out of school, with really no money, my very smart practical father
let me convince him it was a great idea for me to buy my
‘67 Mercedes 250 SL.
Of course he did.
God, I loved that car, poured so much money into it and drove it 200,000 miles for 10 years until it was stolen from me and stripped for every single part and left as an unrecognizable shell in an alley.
.
But that Thunderbird, a gift from his father for college, the car he met my mother in, the car I came home from the hospital in sits in our carport now.
.
I can only dream about putting her back together for now.
.
So until then, Daddy
Roll the window down, put the top down,
Turn the music up and
push the pedal to the floor.
Pure JOY!
