New York now Decatur-based artist Rocher Duchatellier, known simply as ROCHER, is set to release a 7-minute short film to accompany his upcoming single “Wreck” — and he’s calling it his most personal work yet.

The film, written and co-directed by Rocher himself, is based on true events surrounding his recent breakup with his boyfriend from Cullman. What started as a small-town love story turned into what Rocher describes as “a slow-motion wreck you can see coming but can’t steer away from.”

“’Wreck’ isn’t a diss track. It’s the dashcam footage,” Rocher told us. “It’s about loving someone while watching the whole thing crash. Cullman to Decatur is only 45 minutes, but it felt like different worlds by the end.”

Shot on location in North Alabama, the short film moves between late-night parking lots, empty highways on 65, and quiet kitchen-sink moments that Rocher says are pulled directly from real life. The song itself — a moody blend of alt-R&B and southern melancholy — plays out over a cinematic narrative rather than a traditional music video structure.

The 7-minute runtime gives the story room to breathe, with long pauses, text messages left on read, and the kind of silence that only happens after a real breakup.

“Wreck” and the full short film will be available on YouTube and all streaming platforms this month. This is ROCHER at his most vulnerable, and most cinematic.
