This past weekend I got to travel to Wilmington, Delaware for the 7th Annual HBCU Week Awards Gala — and it was something special. The HBCU Week Foundation brought together some of the most influential names in entertainment, sports, business, media, and higher education to celebrate excellence, leadership, and everything HBCUs represent.

The room was packed with some serious names — Anthony Anderson, Stephen A. Smith, Grammy-winning producer and music director Adam Blackstone, Amazon Music executive Phylicia Fant, entrepreneur and music executive Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins. Beyond the familiar faces, the evening also brought out corporate executives, educators, elected officials, HBCU leaders, alumni, and advocates — all united around the same mission of advancing educational access and excellence.

Change is good, change is necessary. I never imagined when I moved to LA that I would lasted 9 years. I haven’t lived somewhere this long since I was a child. Usually after 2-3 years I’m ready for the next adventure. Although LA never really felt like home for me, I was lucky enough to have met so many amazing people and so many amazing experiences. How do you wrap up 9 years. By shouting some people who made it worth wild. You know who you are so I’m not gonna waste time tagging. I am grateful for every single person I’ve met during those 9 years. Thank You LA. 🙏🏽 by @iamwalkerr
