A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. -Proverbs‬ ‭17‬:‭17‬ ‭
On the last day of the fall semester, for the past five years. Me and the bois have gotten together for a sleepover we like to call Crundies. A play off the dundies from the office where we get trophies and do whatever random shenanigans we feel like. Surface level, we’re just a bunch of high schoolers acting like total goobers. But to us, it means so much more. To us it’s group of guys connected first in foremost by their identity in Christ, and friends you can always turn to for the truth. I’ve know some of these dudes since Elementary School. This kind of stuff doesn’t happen overnight.

10 Pictures can’t even come close to sharing 9 weeks of experience at a place like Camp Barnabas. Getting the chance to give children and adults with disabilities a true summer camp experience was a summer well spent. That’s not to mention the incredible friendships I made while serving. Praise God for a place like this. taken in Camp Barnabas by @iamwillbaker05

Today I got baptized to declare to the world that in Christ I’m a new creation.

One of the biggest blessings in my life is that I was born into a home with Christ loving parents who showed me the Gospel and helped me become a Christian at a young age. Furthermore, I was blessed with a group of friends connected by the Church since elementary school. These blessings, however, gave me a sense of pride. I started to believe that I was a better person because of my religion and a better Christian because of my works. I began self righteously judging other Christians behavior. Not realizing that my internalized pride was just as sinful. Come high school, my pride took a different form. I turned to people pleasing, trying to hoard as much attention as possible. I had faith in God and understood the Gospel, yet I remained apathetic to God’s incredible love and sacrifice. The summer after my sophomore year I went to Camp Barnabas on a Watermark Students retreat and accepted a job there for the rest of the summer. It was there that I was shown countless examples of living for God. I was surrounded by young Christians who were very intentional about learning more about God and Loving others. While there, I began to truly understand my depravity as a sinner. I was dead in my trespasses. And it is only through Jesus’s sacrifice on the Cross that I am set free. This school year, I’ve continued to Grow in my relationship with Christ. Finding a consistent time to read my Bible, seeking community with other Christians, and doing my best to spread the good news of Jesus. I still fall short every day and need God’s grace as my battle with pride rages on. But I rest assured knowing that Jesus has won the war.

I had a great time serving on the work crew at YoungLife Lonehollow Ranch. I came into camp with little expectations for the week and left with a stronger relationship with Christ, stronger more Christ centered friendships, and confidence that it was one of the best weekends of my life. (Also a spoon 💪)

If you know much about me, you know how much I love camp. At camp you can grow close to the people you’re with in just a weekend. Camp is where mundane tasks like bussing tables are looked forward to. Camp is where people are stunned by God’s glory. But what makes camp so special? At camp we don’t have our phones to distract us, we don’t have to worry about homework or jobs and our social life is limited to the people around you. This combined with Club talks and bible studies make it very easy to turn our focus more towards Christ. The more of life we turn over to Christ the more gratified we are.

So for the few people who managed to read all the way to the bottom. Let’s make everyday more like camp. Let’s bring up our faith in everyday conversations. Let’s turn to God with our problems and our thankfulness. God wants a relationship with us. The more we focus on him, it may not always get easier but it certainly will be more gratifying.

Psalm 9:1
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

With 2022 coming to an end, I’m reminded of how much I’ve grown, the great opportunities I’ve taken, and how much fun I’ve had. I thank God for all the blessings I have been given this year and I am looking forward to what he has planned for me in 2023. by @iamwillbaker05
