California may be known for coastlines and city lights, but cowboys have always been part of its story. We’re still here—working cattle, riding horses, mending fence, and doing our part to keep the tradition alive.

You can’t kick the cowboy out of California.

Checking mother cows in Laguna. Thank you @james.kemp.98622 for teaching me how to draw blood for pregnancy. What a life! I don’t take one day for granted. #pregcheck #mothercows taken in Mount Laguna, California by @ian.engle

Blessed to share my love for horses with my nephew. It’s hard to put into words how much joy it brought me. Huge thanks to @richie.rnr2270 for bringing out a dang good prospect for the ranch’s trail program. We were both tickled watching how gently she took care of Ford on his very first ride. Some days remind you what’s really important. Glory to God for precious memories like these. I’ll cherish this one forever. by @ian.engle

Every dream starts somewhere. Mine started with toy holsters, oversized boots, and a cowboy hat. Grateful for this life and all the lessons that come with it. It’s funny how some dreams never let go, and I’ll be chasing this deal until my very last sunset.

Last bunch from Campo —> Mount Laguna for summer pastures.

I am over the moon this life found me when I needed a purpose driven future.

Trusting His plan and practicing gratitude daily.

In the meantime, I’ll be working on some loose ended projects and in the saddle stewarding creation with pleasure. #hereiamsendme taken in Campo, California by @ian.engle

Back in 2022, I brought Ranger home as a three year old and quickly realized I was in over my head. I swallowed my pride and sent him back.

More recently I’ve been looking for a ranch horse to call my own. Constantly looking at auctions and FB groups for the perfect horse.

I found that bay roan on my mind and how special it would be to get him back. He would be seven years old and I’ve picked up a few things since we first met.

Would it be easier to find a finished horse? Yes, but I’d be cheating myself of a true horseman’s journey. Knowledge through experience is what I am seeking. I don’t want to look back and feel as though I faked it.

With much consideration, and four years later, Ranger is back home with me.

I will make mistakes. I will need guidance along the way. But this is where I’m at, I need a challenge and a horse to grow with.

Thank you @chasytesanchez for the second chance and for laying such a solid foundation on this gelding.

Let’s get to work. by @ian.engle

Finally got the @powderriverlivestock 1500 series tub, alley, and squeeze integrated into the corrals. A few finishing touches still remain, but we’re getting close to putting this setup to work. #powderriver #cattle #workingsystem by @ian.engle
