On August 20, 2026, the University of Houston Board of Regents voted to approve changes to the Core Curriculum, removing courses that give students the opportunity to learn from the diverse histories, cultures, and experiences that helped shape our nation.

Our history has taught us that progress has never come from silence. The leaders who came before us stood firm, challenged injustice, and fought for what was right even when the odds were against them.

Yes, we lost this battle. But the war is far from over.

The fight against SB 37 is just beginning. We will continue to stand for an education that allows students to learn the full story of our nation and understand the perspectives that make America what it is.

Our leaders’ work did not go in vain. And neither will ours.

Our history depends on us & the next generation depends on us.

We will not be silent. We will continue to speak. We will continue to advocate. We will continue to fight.

Our campus. Our safety. Our voice.

Student leaders are calling for stronger, clearer, and more transparent security because feeling safe shouldn’t be a privilege.

If you care about student safety, stay informed and stay involved. #GoCoogs taken in University of Houston by @ian_kar18
