POSTS STORIES REELS
I miss these early morning struggles. Realized that this account still exists and there was a ton of content I never posted from the project. Anyone still out there and want more 14ers content in their lives? @whitboucher by @iandavidf
For most of my adult life, I’ve diligently sought stretches of disconnected time, out of reception and away from screens, to struggle in nature and bask in the glory of the world. Each season delivered its own landmark of sanity... Full post on Substack. Link in profile. by @iandavidf
New Substack. Link in Profile. Check it out. Consider Subscribing. Love ya'll. -Iceland for my mom's 80th -Obama on Marc Maron's final episode -50 years of Terry Gross -Joan Didion and David Whyte on Routine -A debate about the nature of suffering between the Dalai Lama and Anthony Bourdain, another between Marcus Aurelius and Kurt Cobain, and one of my favorites Nick Bostrom and Wendell Berry. I don't know exactly what I'm trying to build here. It's mainly just an avenue to share shit I think is cool, beautiful, interesting, or in some way enhances our brief little lives on this planet. Hope everyone is finding and creating small spiritual wins amongst the chaos of modern life and everything going on in the world. Sending out my love. by @iandavidf
@theskijournal Cover story profile on @nikolaischirmer by yours truly. I can't wait to get this one in my hands. Niko is a wonderful human with an inspiring story. I loved getting to know him, his process, and his story. He was so generous with his time and energy - multiple hours on the phone, on zoom calls, and an ongoing text thread. Not to mention, all the time I spent pestering his family and friends. After the last profile I wrote for TSJ, right around the time Powder, Bike, and Surf got shitcanned as titles, I wrote a piece about why this stuff matters. I just revisited those thoughts and they feel just as relevant today as when I wrote them 5 years ago : "In a world where so much of our shared mental space revolves around catastrophes of various size, I think celebrating shared joy is as important as it has ever been." This interview, and all of the shared mental space with Niko was certainly a celebration of joy - of ideas, of shared places and pursuits, and of an engaged and curious life. Thanks Niko! Thanks @lily.krass.ritter I hope I didn't cause you too much stress in the editing room! by @iandavidf
My first IG feed post in over a year is about deleting IG. ...About a month ago I struck a communal nerve with a newsletter about phone addiction called The Spiritual Elimination Diet. I wanted to link that post here (in my profile) and tease the follow-up I'm posting tomorrow am. I know, I get it. It's Ironic posting about it here. But, you gotta work with what the world gives you - the world as it is. I'm trying to build a place where I can share my thoughts, ideas, and work without feeling like I'm contributing to something harmful. This is how I can start to build it. If you're interested. Please come over and follow me at Substack. Thanks. ianfohrman.substack.com by @iandavidf
We speak a language of layers A fractal alphabet spelling words of weather Countless crystals - each as stunning as Any sculpture, sonnet, or song Their shapes spin stories Epic poems of cosmic drama For the right eyes to behold Surface hoar rises like city skylines Reaching toward the heavens A tangle of crystalline columns Telling a tale of high pressure A swirling mass of air Carrying heat elsewhere . The story of time - Written in snow We study and read We find connection And strive for fluency For the whole poem, more stories, and more photos. Head on over and subscribe to my Substack. Link in profile. I’ll put one in my story too. Thanks everyone! by @iandavidf
One needn’t adopt any Buddhist dogma to notice that positive people tend to attract each other, that good actions tend to snowball, and a sunny attitude towards life tends to lead to better days. I had been noticing recently how extremely subtle qualities, actions, and mindsets can seem to rapidly compound (in either direction). This trip is the best possible version of positive like-minded people attracting and uplifting each other. This season i vowed to myself to always forgo the easy decision for the ‘right’ one. With about 30 hours remaining before the bell rang for another year, in what already felt like a hard push, I spotted a bull and about 10 cows around 2,500’ above the valley. River crossing, huge bushwhack, heavy pack, storm in the Forcast. I got within 30 yards of the herd 3 times. I weathered multiple downpours under spruce trees. I waited, I listened, I stalked slow and silent, and I hauled ass till my heart almost exploded when the situation called for it. With 1 hour of light left before I would have to wait and train and pine for time in the woods chasing elk for another full year, I found myself stalking the herd bull in a hail storm. I dropped down a steep slope, wind into my face, in between a bugling bull and his cows - separated by a small ridge of trees. Everything went silent. The wind and hail stopped and a thick eerie fog rolled in over the alpine ridges dropping tendrils into the forest and filling the open park full of elk in front of me. For moments I couldn’t see more than 10 yards. I stalked in closer. I put an arrow on the string and froze as the bull crested the hill exactly where I hoped he’d be. But.. my rangefinder wouldn’t work with all the moisture in the air - was he 27 yards or 34? He turned broadside and dropped his head to feed - giving me the moment I needed to draw my bow. Unsure of the exact distance I hesitated and let the moment pass. On his next breath, something twitched in the cosmic fabric, he looked directly at me and after staring a hole through me for what felt like 5 minutes, he turned tail thundering into the woods with the rest of the herd. The next 3 dark hours of breaking camp and hiking back to the truck in an absolute torrential downpour, I questioned my decisions and my instincts. I’ve felt alternating pangs of regret and waves of pride ever since. But that night, I felt I had given it everything I had - physically and mentally. I slept with rain beating the top of the camper and awoke to the first snow of the season blessing the peaks - proud that I had come, been close amongst the elk, and that I made no easy decisions. by @iandavidf

This place is beyond special. A simple fixed grip two seater chair in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Huge thanks to Jen and Aaron for the vision and the fortitude to make this place a reality. It is truly one of the coolest places in skiing. Thanks to @arztm for rallying the troops on behalf of @thepublicworks. Thanks to our rad little crew for making the day so fun. Thanks to @hollisc for a fun ride out and @shanefuhrman for creating a beautiful slice of rad contemporary comfort at @thewymanhotel ⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ Pretty much all my best days in life could read like an acceptance speech thanking all the beautiful humans that made it possible (whether they're physically present with me or not).⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ #silverton #colorado #shred #pow #mountains #alpine #rugged #cowboy @mattyswanson @thewymanhotel @thepublicworks @silvertonmtn @mags_puppi_realestate @jordiekarlinski @jordiekarlinski @zchayes by @iandavidf
Just trying my best to soak it all in. . Life is short. After spending the last few days with family, watching our parents progress into their 3rd act (gracefully and inspirationally, but still...) it’s painfully obvious how brief our little fruit fly blip of conscious existence is. Life goes by in a flash of fleeting moments. . I also am in awe of how fucking lucky I am. To be able to travel. To do work I love. But mostly to be surrounded by loving, kind, thoughtful, kind, curious, intelligent people. I love you all. . #sentimental #family #travel #andes #pacificocean #exploremore #chile #oregon #oregoncoast #getoutstayout #aginggracefully #awe by @iandavidf
I’ve been coming here for over a decade. It’s strange being the old guy... but I guess I better start getting used to that feeling. Even though this was one of the worst snow years in history, it was one of the better trips I’ve had. . The people make the experience. Thanks @maxshreds @drewbee_dr @steven_nyman @jaredgoldberg @aliweather_ and all the amazing staff at @skiportillo @camilo_d_toro . #chile #portillo #ski #travel #astrophotography #exploremore #southamerica #mountainlife #mountains #andes by @iandavidf
