Who votes no to a ceasefire, under any circumstances, ever? I hope that all my fellow musicians will join the over 6,000 artists who have signed this letter from @musicians4palestine demanding an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and an end to the siege if you haven’t done so already—knowing that that is just the most immediate step and that justice and liberation are necessary prerequisites to ensure lasting peace for EVERYONE.🫒🍉 link in bio to sign and then share 🍉🫒Music is both a tool of and means of liberation from oppression, especially in instances of colonialism such as this. Have you met my dear friend Dr. Deaa Okasha?He is currently working tirelessly in Egypt to support his family who remain in 🍉aza. He has done so incredibly much to help ensure their wellbeing, but the conditions make it so challenging for him to do that all alone. His family has received so little support since the all-too-brief increase when I posted this video last July, and I’m really hoping I can count on y’all to help rebuild momentum. Even if you can’t contribute directly, will you be a part of his family’s team and help get this seen by people who can?@deaaokasha was able to evacuate shortly before the closure of the Rafah crossing, and that was only so that he could continue to work after having endured the destruction of the International Eye Hospital and Al-Shifa Hospital, the forced evacuation of Nasser Medical Complex, and the looming threat of the upcoming Rafah invasion while working at Emirates Crescent Hospital.I’m hoping that pairing his story with a little custom music will help get this in front of more of you wonderful people. If you saw my previous posts for Deaa, you might recall that he is a fan of classical music and I made little arrangement of part of Gymnopédie No.1 by Erik Satie. This is the little lofi remix of that from last year 🤓🎶Please contribute via my 🔗🌳 to help ensure his family is able to afford basic necessities—and please do so on a recurring basis if at all possible. Especially given the constantly increasing prices of food & drink, as well as the ever-increasing danger, our sustained support is vital! Protect protecting trans kids includes protecting them from airborne pathogens!Masking and improving ventilation are effective ways of making music lessons and other spaces safer for trans kids and for EVERYONE!I finished up music lessons the other evening and was thinking about how I haven’t seen many people advocating for clean air as a part of keeping trans kid safe, and I know we can all do a lot better on that front. Will you include advocating for clean air as a part of your advocacy for trans youth? “The summertime is coming, and the trees are sweetly blooming” ☀️🌳🎶I fell in love with this song when I first heard it a number of years ago, and I always think of it as we get closer to summer. Hard to believe the solstice is tomorrow! It’s also been so awesome to see so many other people come to know and love this song after it was used so expertly in Sinners, and as it’s originally a Scottish tune, I hope seeing this version will encourage you to check out the version of the song that I fell in love with by @therealmckenzies !One of the other reasons I’m reposting this is to give a bit of an update on what I shared about this previously.I recorded this not too long after my voice took a major hit due to the progression of my chronic of illness and mold in our home due to her HVAC breaking down and us not being able to repair it. When I first reposted it in 2023 I talked about the importance of trying to use your voice if you can, no matter how you feel about it, and my ongoing efforts to relearn how to use my voice so I could finish tracking vocals for songs that I started recording ages ago. Much longer story shorter, I’m not quite there yet, but watching this at least allows me to hear how far I’ve come and actually working with my body in its current state, despite how often I just want to give up.If there’s one thing I’ve learned from these last few years of incomprehensible heartbreak and brutality, it is to never give up and always keep striving to bring more beauty into this world through music and whatever other means available, no matter what.On a similar note, the last verse in this version of the song speaks to colonial violence, and if you haven’t heard it, you should! I was originally going to try just sharing that verse with y’all but have not quite been feeling up to filming, though in the spirit of this caption, if anyone wants to hear it, I’ll certainly give it my best shot—and I definitely recommend checking out the real McKenzies version regardless!Here’s to all of us adding our voices to the chorus calling for justice, accountability, and a safer, more loving world for us all—no matter how we by @ianhfl

Juneteenth is such a hard-won, long-overdue, and important holiday to celebrate—especially this year—as an integral component of our deeply complex history on this stolen land.And yet, one can draw a direct line from chattel slavery and “slave patrollers” to contemporary “proactive policing,” mass incarceration, and a near endless list of other modes of oppression, extraction, and profiteering-including the same forced labor that existed prior to the signing of the 13th Amendment in December 1865.Let’s take this all the way. We were so excited to see our rhododendron and Azalea’s blooming so much this year, but I’ve been so busy that I forgot to share some of that beauty with y’all!One day, I inadvertently got some sunscreen on the lens of my camera and got this cool little blur effect, so I especially wanted to share those because I think they are NEAT, and I am including some of the other normal photos because they are also very pretty—and also because it’s always a good time for flowers, even more so when the world feels so wildly tough! by @ianhfl

Recently finished tracking all the acoustic guitars for the Folk/Americana album that @thomascjames and I are making!Currently working on getting everything comped 🤓🎸 The songs kept calling out for more acoustic guitars, so there’s a lot to get through, but we think it will be well worth it! This Trampled By Turtles track is one of our reference songs, to give you at least one little flavor of this record. Lots of breezy acoustic vibes!From a nerdy songwriter/guitarist note, Thomas and I have never recorded a full album entirely remotely before so this has been a novel adventure for the both of us. One of the things that I wasn’t used to was writing & tracking guitar parts during the recording process; we had all the chords and main guitar parts all worked out, but usually if I’m recording an album, I’ve played each song dozens of times already, if not hundreds of times! It took a little longer to sort out how to layer each guitar part and what voicings to use, etc.—especially when interrupted by the crazy weather we’ve been having, like hail one night!!—but it’s been wonderful to hear these songs come to life through this process.We really love these songs and can’t wait for y’all to to hear these tracks—and to hear what you think!
