International star Bai Ling @iambailing on Emergence 2028 - how we (Ian Kane & Dreamflight Entertainment @iankanedreamflight + Matt Taff @act_break) first crossed paths and why she decided to become part of the film. She talks about the passion and persistence she saw in me, Ian Kane, and our team from the beginning, and the drive, faith and belief it takes to keep pushing a project like this forward. She also mentions stepping onto our set for the first time and being impressed by the professionalism of the production and crew.
And then there’s Savina.
Bai describes her as powerful and mysterious, which is exactly the presence I wanted when I created the character. Savina moves through Emergence 2028 with her own agenda, and Bai brought an unpredictability to her that fits this world perfectly. As she says in the clip, part of what excites her about the film is that you don’t know where it’s going or what’s going to happen next.
We’re now nearing the end of post-production, with the screening copy getting closer and potential distributors already expressing strong interest (Follow us on our new https://www.tiktok.com/@emergence2028official )

Welcome to Sector 17. As Drakken (Daeg Faerch @greatdaegofficial — “Halloween,” “Euphoria”) wraps a gritty scene of his own, we push deeper into the Dregsprawl, where the Golden Swallow comes alive after dark — an underground club just outside the guarded walls of the Core City, where fixers, mercs — and other underworld types with no good reason to use their real names — all cross paths.
Bannon (Matt Taff @act_break) swaggers in while Savina (Bai Ling @iambailing — “The Crow,” “Red Corner”) escorts a VIP through the crowd and arms dealer Sidestreet (Patrik Simpson @patriksimpson) and model boy Gabriel (Pol Atteu @polatteu) mingle with the local denizens. It all looks casual enough, right up until the night takes a turn that will never make the official report.

We’re officially nearing the completion of Emergence 2028.
When writer/director Ian Kane @iankanedreamflight created these characters years ago, he always pictured them as part of a larger world, not just moving from scene to scene. The funky streets had to have some history breathed into them, the industrial zones needed to feel used and half-forgotten, with the corporate towers belonging to a completely different class of people looking down on all of it. That’s something we’ve been able to build out much more in post, with not just one, but two #vfx artists fleshing out the atmosphere while Matt Taff @act_break keeps assembling everything thrown his way.

Matt Taff @act_break and myself, glorious leader Ian Kane @iankanedreamflight ran into Tom Malloy @tommalloy, COO of Studio Dome (formerly Glass House Film Distribution), again at the same Sherman Oaks spot where we’d met at James Bressack’s @jamescullenb distribution event. Funny how often the same people cross paths in this business. Turns out we’ve also got martial arts in common. He trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which I studied as well. Always cool finding people in the film world who also have a martial arts background. This year has been transformative in ways I didn’t expect. We finished shooting Emergence 2028, which is now in post-production, and met some great film distribution folks. I’ve also started writing a new prequel novel series, Emergence 2028: Black Web, which is opening up a whole other side of this gritty world.
One of the biggest changes has been filtering what I let into my life. Since there’s enough anger, cynicism and negativity coming at us every day, I’ve been making more room for things that are funny, hopeful, or just make me feel good. And yes, I’m a grown ass man who just watched Paw Patrol (you may have spotted the poster behind me) and thoroughly enjoyed it. After all, what we consume affects us.

People see the cast names, the footage, and the finished scenes. They don’t see the money stress, the impossible days, the flakes, or the fires we had to put out to make Emergence 2028 @emergence2028 (https://emergence2028series.com/) happen.
It started with my script and a bit of creativity, but it got made because of a crew that kept going when quitting would have been easier. Now we’ve officially wrapped a retropunk sci-fi feature with Eric Roberts @ericrobertsactor , Bai Ling @iambailing , Sean Rogers @srogers_that, Daeg Faerch @greatdaegofficial, and Paul Logan @paullogan88.
Now we’re in post - prepping for #filmdistribution.

You start a project in your room with just a script and impossible odds. Then one day you step onto the set and realize there are over 70 people standing there waiting for your call. Producer Matt Taff @act_break and I definitely didn’t expect that kind of headcount for #cyberpunk #action #thriller Emergence 2028 @emergence2028. It is one of those moments where you are completely thrust into the fire, and you just have to plant your feet and build the damn thing.
Directing international star Bai Ling @iambailing in the middle of that chaos was a massive highlight. She was cool, creative, ready to work, and we clicked right away. She understood the rough world we were building and I had a blast directing her with Pol Atteu @polatteu and Patrik Simpson @patriksimpson.
Taking a breath to look back at these images brings a quiet kind of gratitude - such a pivotal moment. You realize you’re standing in the middle of something you sweat and bled for.
Now we are grinding through the final days of post-production, with distribution right on the horizon.
To my fellow indie filmmakers still in the trenches trying to get the damn movie made, keep going. It’s a brutal road, but seeing the thing finally come together is worth the fight.
