In Paris with Ian Mwesiga, as he guides us through “Au service des rêves (In the Service of Dreams)”, his first solo exhibition at the gallery’s european location.

Across a series of enigmatic scenes, Mwesiga imagines stories balanced on the axis of reality, where memory fragments through shifting perspectives. Each work dissolves the boundaries of time as narratives flicker through a filmic fog.

With technical precision, Mwesiga invites the gaze toward the edge—where shadows begin and perception shifts. The viewer becomes a voyeur, watching figures suspended between arrival and departure. As a participant in this nonlinear narrative, the viewer pieces together memories and possibilities that unfold like cinematic memory.

À Paris avec Ian Mwesiga, qui nous guide à travers Au service des rêves, sa première exposition personnelle dans le lieu européen de la galerie.

À travers une série de scènes énigmatiques, Mwesiga imagine des récits en équilibre à la lisière du réel, où la mémoire se fragmente à travers des perspectives mouvantes. Chaque œuvre dissout les frontières du temps, tandis que les récits vacillent dans une brume cinématographique.

Avec une précision technique, Mwesiga attire le regard vers les marges — là où commencent les ombres et où la perception se transforme. Le spectateur devient voyeur, observant des figures suspendues entre arrivée et départ. With worlds suspended between light and shadow, memory and invention, every composition is poised between reality and recollection, neither fully anchored nor entirely adrift. Ian Mwesiga’s body of work has been strongly figurative in its representation of human figures, in these new works we witness an exploration that finds an expressive and eloquent vocabulary in shadows and silhouettes.

Avec des mondes suspendus entre lumière et ombre, mémoire et invention, chaque composition se tient entre réalité et souvenir, ni totalement ancrée ni entièrement à la dérive. Le travail d’Ian Mwesiga a longtemps été marqué par une forte présence de la figure humaine. Ainsi dans ces nouvelles œuvres, on retrouve son exploration d’un langage expressif et éloquent grâce à un jeu d’ombres et de silhouettes.

As a participant in this nonlinear narrative, the viewer pieces together memories and possibilities that unfold like cinematic memory.

This exhibition offers invitations rather than answers — to wander, to linger, to feel the pull of thresholds and the expansion of the interstitial moments. Each canvas is a passage, a moment of becoming, where the edges of reality soften.
