A recent illustration for Nature @nature_the_journal exploring Europe’s growing role in global science alongside the US and China.

Thanks as always to Wes @wesolicious and Nik @nikinkscartoons for the guidance, feedback, and trust throughout the process. This one went through a few iterations, but I’m really happy with where it landed. Three laboratory flasks represent Europe, the United States, and China through blue, red, and yellow liquid compositions. Floating molecular forms and glowing scientific elements surround the vessels, symbolizing the changing global landscape of scientific research and collaboration. by @iarafath

Opening Spread

To create the typographic textures for this illustration, I built a custom typographic rendering tool using Claude Code. It combines multiple rendering methods, including ASCII, stippling, Voronoi, and editable SVG text, to create layered typographic structures that I could then refine throughout the illustration process.

An alternate concept I explored for the article.

Instead of contrasting symbolic and physical worlds, this one focused on the difference between representing an object and experiencing it. by @iarafath

I get asked to work with panels quite a bit. This one expands that into a larger system.

When a lot is happening at once, or in tension, you can’t reduce it into one idea. You structure it so it stays coherent.
