Dragonfly · Anisoptera Those eyes are made of thousands of tiny visual units called ommatidia. Together, they help a dragonfly detect movement and track prey in flight. What looks smooth from a distance becomes a mosaic up close. This portrait combines 201 photographs to bring that fine detail into focus. Swipe across the panorama to explore the eyes. 📍 Ciawi, Java, Indonesia 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔍 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO ⚙️ 1/100 sec · f/9 · ISO 200 💡 Flash with @cygnustech diffuser 🧩 Focus stack of 201 images #Dragonfly #Anisoptera #MacroPhotography #OMSYSTEM #CygnustechDiffuser by @ib.macro
Damselfly · Zygoptera 106 photographs stacked. Photographed in Ciawi, Java, Indonesia. A damselfly is a hunter long before its first flight. Underwater, its nymph has a remarkable weapon: a hinged lower lip that shoots forward to seize prey, then folds back to bring the catch straight to its jaws. Another beautiful moth 🖤💛 This is a wasp moth, provisionally identified as Syntomini. Its bold black-and-yellow pattern and pale wing windows help explain the name: many moths in this group resemble wasps. It was sitting still and staring at me so I was able to combine 81 photographs to bring more details into focus. Swipe across the wings, then zoom in on the face. Which detail caught your eye first? 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔍 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO ⚙️ f/8 · 1/100 sec · ISO 200 ⚡ @godox V860III with @cygnustech diffuser 🧩 81-frame focus stack #WaspMoth #MacroPhotography #FocusStacking #arthropod_perfection #macro_perfection by @ib.macro
I lay down in the Taurus Mountains to photograph a leaf beetle - and suddenly found myself face to face with this enormous spider, just a few centimetres away. At roughly 5-6 cm across, she gave me quite a fright. I think the surprise was mutual. While I studied her, she seemed to study me back. Slowly, fear gave way to fascination. She stayed remarkably still, tolerating my bulky diffuser and giving me time to capture the tiny details of her extraordinary face. Thank you, gorgeous creature, for your patience. 🕷️ Those eyes belong to a wolf spider (Lycosidae). Several contain a reflective layer that sends light back through the retina, helping her see in dim conditions - the same mechanism behind their striking eyeshine. Swipe to explore the panorama, built from 225 photographs, and meet the whole spider. 📍 Taurus Mountains · Alanya, Türkiye Follow @ib.macro for more encounters with the small world. 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔎 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO 🧩 Panorama: 225-shot focus stack ⚡ @godox V860III and @cygnustech diffuser 🎒 @cotton_carrier #WolfSpider #arthropod_perfection #MacroPhotography #macro_perfection #universal_macro_ by @ib.macro
Those eyes of Jumping spider are not just for looking cute🕷️ Behind those enormous front lenses, movable retinas scan the scene even while the spider’s head stays still. A tiny hunter with a remarkable way of watching the world. This little one patiently put up with my shaky setup and diffuser wobbling among the leaves, sticking around while I finished all 63 frames. Definitely the more patient one of us💚 Swipe across for the full portrait. Hoppers - the rulers of the world 🌿👑 At least, the tiny world I love exploring through my lens. I love hoppers in all their fantastic variety. Every encounter gives me another reason to look closer, and I can’t wait to meet even more extraordinary, colourful ones I see here in IG from other amazing photographers. Their world has its own conversations, too: leafhoppers send courtship signals as tiny vibrations through plants. A leaf can be both a home and a telephone. Leafhoppers & planthoppers · Hemiptera Follow @ib.macro - the search for the next remarkable hopper continues. 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔎 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO 🧩 Focus-stacked · 157 frames for the green cover portrait ⚡ Godox V860III · @cygnustech diffuser 🎒 @cotton_carrier @raw_insects @raw_macro @insectguru #Leafhopper #Planthopper #MacroPhotography #InsectPhotography #FocusStacking by @ib.macro
Ladybird beetle · Coccinellidae 🐞 📍 Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia Cute to us. A nightmare for aphids. Many ladybirds are ruthless predators, hunting soft-bodied insects and tearing into them with their jaws. Follow @ib.macro for insects up close and the science behind them. 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔎 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO ⚙️ 1/100 sec · f/5.6 · ISO 200 ⚡ Godox V860III · @cygnustech diffuser 🎒 @cotton_carrier @raw_insects @raw_macro @insectguru #Ladybird #Ladybug #Coccinellidae #MacroPhotography #InsectPhotography by @ib.macro
Robber fly · Asilidae This fly starts digesting its dinner before swallowing it. Robber flies catch other insects in flight and pierce them with their mouthparts, injecting venom that paralyses the prey. Digestive fluids then break down its tissues into a liquid meal the fly can suck up. A remarkable amount of chemistry hidden behind that silver beard. 📷 Sony A7R VI 🔍 Sony 100mm macro lens ⚙️ ISO 1600 · f/7.1 · 1/400 sec 🧩 Handheld focus stack of 13 images #RobberFly #Asilidae #MacroPhotography #InsectPhotography #MacroWorld by @ib.macro
Green planthopper · Issidae Some planthoppers have real mechanical gears. In nymphs of Issus coleoptratus, a species in this family, interlocking teeth on the hind legs synchronize their movement to within 30 millionths of a second. This helps launch the insect straight ahead without spinning. The gears disappear at the final moult into adulthood. Two views, two focus stacks: a 98-frame portrait followed by a 42-frame photograph split across the next two slides. 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔎 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO ⚙️ 1/125 sec · f/8 · ISO 200 ⚡ Godox V860III with @cygnustech diffuser 🎒 @cotton_carrier camera harness 🧩 98 / 42 frames · Helicon Focus @helicon_focus #Planthopper #Issidae #MacroPhotography #FocusStacking #OMSYSTEM by @ib.macro
Flies are beautiful. Their eyes are deep. Blue, green and violet, packed into two enormous eyes. Up close, the surface becomes a mosaic of tiny facets. Each facet is the outer lens of a visual unit called an ommatidium. These units point in different directions, sampling small parts of the scene. The fly’s visual system processes their signals together to detect movement and help guide its flight. 🪰 Fly · Diptera 📷 @omsystem.cameras OM-1 Mark II 🔍 M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO ⚙️ 1/80 sec · f/5.6 · ISO 200 💡 Godox V860III flash with @cygnustech diffuser 🎒 @cotton_carrier camera carrying system 🧩 Focus stack of 40 images #InsectPhotography #FlyPhotography #FocusStacking #OMSYSTEM by @ib.macro
