Flies are beautiful. Their eyes are deep.
Blue, green and violet, packed into two enormous eyes. Up close, the surface becomes a mosaic of tiny facets.
Each facet is the outer lens of a visual unit called an ommatidium. These units point in different directions, sampling small parts of the scene. The fly’s visual system processes their signals together to detect movement and help guide its flight.
