SUEKI YEE
→ TRACE / IMPERMANENCE / WHAT REMAINS

SueKi Yee is a Malaysian dancer-choreographer who uses movement as a starting point for experimentation across soundscape, photo, video & text
Her work explores the body as a medium of communication and discourse, also as a repository of information — particularly collective histories, memories & identity
2.
For Everything That Dies Inside Us, SueKi shares two meditations on identity, trace and transformation: what happens when we leave one place for another, and what happens when we finally leave this world
Her work asks:
“Can we truly take anything with us?
Do we truly leave anything behind?”
Within that uncertainty — & the impermanence of all things — there might also be space for relief & for connection to something larger than ourselves

Now(,) and then: debris — performance
When we leave one life for another elsewhere, we are confronted with the choice of what to take with us — a forced assessment of what we value and who we imagine we can become.

“To recognize my existence is to already realize my death”

JULES
→ MASK / LAYERS / CHANGE

Jules has always found a space for transformation through performance — from theatre & dance to scare acting and fairy-tale characters
Their contribution to ENCOUNTERS emerges from a period of personal change

The performance begins with a cheerful mask.
Then comes a rupture.
The mask disappears, but what appears underneath is not necessarily a “true self”. Another surface emerges The body changes with it: movement becomes distorted, unnatural, almost creature-like.
That layer, too, begins to disappear
3.
Movement softens. The body turns inward. The face is gradually cleared
Rather than moving from false to true, the performance moves through a succession of selves:
MASK → RUPTURE → ALTERATION → REMOVAL → ?

What remains when one version of ourselves disappears?
Do we ever arrive at a final one?

Encounters, exchanges, experiments, and continue weaving the networks that hold us together.
A space for bodies ~voices ~gestures & experiences.
Unexpected connections. Personal transformations.
For what remains unfinished.
For staying together.

Throughout the evening, invited artists will inhabit and activate the space through performances, actions, works and interventions.
Different practices will meet.
Some will overlap.
Some will leave traces.
Others might simply happen once and disappear.
There is no need for everything to arrive finished. Every encounter becomes part of the archive.

Einige Impressionen von der Vernissage. EVERYTHING THAT DIES IN US ist ein Erfahrungsraum: Kommt vorbei, trefft uns, teilt eure Gedanken…

Was bleibt, wenn sich das Leben grundlegend verändert? Und wie lassen sich persönliche Erfahrungen mit den übergeordneten Fragen von Zugehörigkeit, Sichtbarkeit und Sorgearbeit verbinden?

Die Ausstellung ist als offener, partizipativer Erfahrungsraum konzipiert, in dem Performance, Video, Zeichnung, Installation und Diskursformate miteinander verwoben sind. Die Künstlerinnen* setzen sich mit Themen wie Veränderung, Verlust, Migration, Krankheit, Erinnerung und Transformation auseinander.

Things get destroyed in order to let them go, to escape their powerful hold, to resignify the past, and to create a new beginning.

Visitors can interact with this installation by removing small pieces from any of the personal photographs displayed and taking these pieces with them.
The photographs are from my personal archive and were taken during my first three years living in the United States, after my family emigrated from Bolivia.

What remains when life changes fundamentally? And how can personal experiences be connected to broader questions of belonging, visibility, and care?

The exhibition is conceived as an open, participatory space for experience, in which
performance, video, drawing, installation, and discussion formats are interwoven. The artists explore themes such as change, loss, migration, illness, memory, and transformation.
