September library acquisitions! Personal library, of course.

Mazywood and True Confessions of First Lady Freeman are highly anticipated reads for me! Some of the other books were selected for me as a part of a writing workshop I attended months ago that finally arrived. One was an arc.

And I got a new bookish bag! I've loved pink and blue together for decades! by @ibookyoulook

Shout out to the person who planted the seed for listening to an audiobook while you follow along in the physical book. It has changed my ability to read nonfiction, particularly about a difficult subject like chattel slavery.

Listening and annotating has changed the game!! These are my five latest immersive reads and I'm looking forward to the next five. If you've found it difficult to get through nonfiction, try it this way. by @ibookyoulook

August acquisitions! Everyone welcome them to my library! 👏🏾 You will have to compete for my attention like everyone else, but you are welcome! Glad you're here!

Physical books I'm reading writing now.

Doing my second immersive read with The Message.
I always modify #theSealeyChallenge to read poetry daily in August and these are some of the latest.

Still writing.

A masterful meditation on the color blue in the lives of Black People across the diaspora. Visual artists, writers, singers, musicians, politicians and provocateurs, Imani Perry allows them all to inspire this treatise. It inspired me to create a playlist with the songs mentioned throughout the book and others like them. I know I'll be thinking the color blue more deeply for a long time.

This was my first immersive read. Listening to the book read by the author while I held a hardcover to follow along and annotate was a new gift I want to return to repeatedly. by @ibookyoulook

The latest acquisitions for my personal library are totally indicative of where my reading and writing brains are right now.

I have three spec fiction ideas in my head and I don't know how long they are so I'm going to consider flash fiction but I need to read some because it's one story type I have little experience reading.

I always love hearing about Black educational experiences and am proudly in the third generation of college-educated women in my family. All HBCU educated in my direct lineage. Two of my great aunts attended Northern universities in the 1940s.

I've heard so much buzz about Our Vicious Oaths and The Great Wherever that I had to get those, too. And I supported two local indie bookstores. 😊 by @ibookyoulook

I try to say hi anytime @jasminepics is near Charlotte, so I was thrilled to attend her first event in South Carolina! And I wore my shirt that she signed at Black Romance Book Festival and she recognized it and took my picture!! 🥰

I came to this event at the end of a memoir writing fellowship. I attended last week so I had writing and process on the brain. It really resonated with me when she said, "I try to keep other people's opinions out of my head when I'm writing. All I can do is write a book that I like and that I want to write." MESSAGE RECEIVED!!

The library gave out little swag bags with a reusable wine Tumblr, a votive, a pen and a copy of one of her books! So cool! And it happened to be one that I did not already own. There was also bookseller there and I accidentally bought a book that I have already had signed by her. Oops. I guess I need to start scanning my books, huh?

See my stack of signed Jasmines! 😊 by @ibookyoulook

I somehow managed to have two of my most anticipated reads of the year in my hot little hands on pub day!! And they shared a pub day, which is cute and also pressure. 😂

I had to do a lil photo shoot at a cute restaurant. Let the reading begin!! by @ibookyoulook

Shout out to @blackromancebookfestival for the chance to grab signatures from so many of my faves!

I called up my local library and a librarian helped me find a hand embroidery class so I can learn that skill to give these signatures more longevity! taken in Atlanta, GA by @ibookyoulook

My favorite freebies from #BRBF! The bags and books were gift with purchase, and I won the bracelet in a raffle! There were some really cute bookmarks again this year, too! This was my second year, attending with my book. Bestie and I got to meet up with a few local friends, too. Love, love, love BRBF!!

I came to BRBF with a plan and BABY! It was a success! I got a haul, some signatures, met the infamous Zane, got some pics where I look like I'm BFFs with some of my faves (and some of them recognized me from other events!), saw some of my favorite people IRL and just generally had a good ass time!! The keynotes were absolutely amazing. I LOVE @blackromancebookfestival! by @ibookyoulook

Buying a stack of books, copping some merch, meeting 15 authors, checking out a restaurant I heard about over a decade ago but never tried, sliding over to a bookstore to grab a signed copy of a new book. IT WAS A GOOD DAY @blackromancebookfestival!! 🤗 by @ibookyoulook
