A heartwarming Ramadan story full of love, family . . . and CATS!

Lillia and Grandma are excited to spend time together during Ramadan. But this year brings a surprise guest: Lillia’s new pet cat! And Grandma does NOT like cats . . .

Join Lillia and Grandma on their special adventures together from enjoying delicious Iftar, to morning prayer, visiting the Mosque and decorating Eid Mubarak cards. But one little friend keeps popping up . . .

As Lillia and her grandma enjoy this time together, Grandma gently teaches Lillia the meaning of Ramadan while Lillia shows Grandma that cats can also be comforting and full of wonder. Through learning from one another, Lillia and Grandma gain new perspectives on faith and family, celebrating how we can all grow together and find new ways to connect.

This beautifully illustrated non-fiction picture book also includes accessible facts about Ramadan and invites young readers to explore this special time.

The Cat and the Prayer Mat is a heartfelt celebration of faith and family and the perfect story to share together during Ramadan, reminding us all of the unexpected ways love helps us grow. by @ibrahimmshidiq

Today, our eleventh children's book, "Hello, India!" is officially out from Beach Lane Books / Simon & Schuster.

It's thoughtfully illustrated by Ibrahim Shidiq.

Maybe we should have started with this one.

Over the last decade, my mom and I have written books together about Indian culture, folklore, traditions, food, and the stories she grew up with. After eleven books, it felt like the right time to give readers a proper introduction to India itself, in all of its extraordinary diversity.

Hello, India! takes readers on a journey across the country, from the shimmering Taj Mahal to a busy bazaar, a Bollywood film set, and the Himalayan Mountains. Along the way, our friendly characters visit places from Bangalore to Punjab (where one says “Sat Sri Akaal”), Delhi, Mumbai, and beyond. They even stop for a snack (tamarind pie!) in Pondicherry, one of my favorite towns.

We wanted to capture some of the incredible variety of India: its places, people, food, traditions, energy, and beauty. I hope the book encourages readers to visit the country one day. And if you can't make the journey physically, I hope your imagination can take you there.

The older I get, the more I treasure this partnership with my mother. It was her dream to write children's books. A decade later, here we are, still telling stories together and sharing pieces of her childhood and her country with a new generation.

This photo is of the two of us at the actual Taj Mahal earlier this year. Since the Taj is on the cover of Hello, India!, we thought it only made sense to get a picture together there.

It remains such a magical symbol of India, and a fitting place to begin this journey.

Hello, India! is out today.

Namaste. by @ibrahimmshidiq

First personal work in months, i’ve been away from making art for myself and finally finally finally found the flow to make one. Not thinking too much about the story and definitely not trying to make a portfolio worthy piece here haha.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing good despite all the things that happened!!! Much love ❤️🫶 by @ibrahimmshidiq
