ICA San Francisco presents Lily Kwong: EARTHSEED DOME, now open at Transamerica Redwood Park.

This major new project from botanical artist Lily Kwong is a large-scale, site-responsive installation shaped by ancestral building practices, ecological stewardship, and emerging technology.

Free and open daily. We invite you to visit, return often, and become part of this living, reciprocal public work.

Now on view at ICA SF at Transamerica Pyramid Center (Annex)

Stratagems is a major installation of large-scale sculptures by Tara Donovan, including five works never before shown publicly. Constructed from tens of thousands of recycled CDs, the vertically oriented works extend Donovan’s long-standing investigation into systems of accumulation and transformation, entering into direct dialogue with architecture, light, and the built environment.

Installed within the glass Annex gallery at Transamerica Pyramid Center, the sculptures register subtle atmospheric shifts, positioning the site as an active collaborator. As Donovan notes: “I am always fixated on the ways that sculptures transform space and experience, and in this context, an intention of these sculptures to engage the understanding of urban architecture can be fully realized.”

The exhibition is on from January 17 to July 31, 2026. Admission is always free.

We’re thrilled to share that ICA San Francisco is presenting a monumental new public artwork by internationally renowned artist Jeffrey Gibson (@jeffrune). Adapted from Gibson’s landmark 2022 ICA SF exhibition THIS BURNING WORLD, the work will span the full Mission Street façade of the former Bloomingdale’s building at San Francisco Centre. This new iteration reconfigures stills from the original 60-foot-wide video installation into a tapestry-like field guided by pattern and rhythm. The work speaks to the urgency of our collective relationship to the planet while asserting the power of art to foster connection, reflection and shared civic experience.

We’re honored to welcome Jeffrey Gibson back to San Francisco and to share this pivotal work with our city.

This is your last chance to experience two site-specific exhibitions presented by ICA SF (@icasanfrancisco) at Transamerica Pyramid Center, which debuted during SF Art Week earlier this year.

Lily Kwong: EARTHSEED DOME (@lily_kwong) — a living sculpture 3D-printed from organic materials and seeded with soil, nestled in Transamerica Redwood Park. On view through July 26.

Tara Donovan: Stratagems (@tadodonovan) — thousands of recycled CDs transformed into towering, light-responsive sculptures inside the glass Annex at Transamerica Pyramid Center. On view through July 31.

Amid the skyscrapers of San Francisco’s Financial District, tucked between the trees of Transamerica Redwood Park, is @lily_kwong’s “Earthseed Dome”—a 12-foot-high, 30-foot-wide living sculpture. Her largest work to date, it was inspired by Ruth Asawa, who shared Kwong’s fondness for organic, undulating forms, and Buckminster Fuller, the modernist architect whose geodesic domes envisioned a more harmonious future. “I was inspired by that, and wanted to honor that,” Kwong said of Fuller’s utopian vision, “but I also wanted to push it a step towards my own interest and curiosity in Earth-based wisdom and ancient technologies.”⁠

Tucked behind IRL tree branches is a serene vignette hidden within the bustle of downtown. Rupy C. Tut’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘪𝘤𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘭𝘶𝘤𝘬 offers viewers a shared meal nestled into a landscape of forests, mountains, and oceans.

Start with the bigger picture, then let your eyes wander. Can you find the blanket? The samosas? The thermos of chai? What other details reveal themselves the longer you look?

When 𝘛𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘋𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘯: 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘴 closes on July 31, every step taken to install the exhibition will be retraced in reverse. That’s right—every CD gets padded. A meticulous and manual process to preserve the works for its next journey.

Did you know the redwoods are woven into the story of EARTHSEED DOME?

Inspired in part by Lily Kwong’s early encounters with California’s redwoods, the installation invites visitors to consider our relationship to the complex, wise, and interdependent living systems that connect us. Situated within Transamerica Redwood Park, the dome enters into dialogue with the grove that surrounds it.

DJ @miamoretti has created a playlist inspired by the installation and its setting. Listen among the trees, inside the dome, or wherever you find yourself seeking a moment of connection with the natural world.
