Want to build a career at a high-growth Kiwi startup? 🚀

We asked operators from @halterhq, @partlyrepair, and @gotracksuit at Careers of the Future during Auckland Startup Week.

Their advice: embrace the unpredictability, act like a founder, and get comfortable moving forward with imperfect information.

After more than a decade of building from Auckland, @fuel50 have been acquired by Phoenix Education Partners, the Nasdaq-listed parent company of the University of Phoenix.

Anne Fulton and Jo Mills founded Fuel50 in 2012 with a mission to help people grow their careers. Their software now helps global organisations understand their workforce’s skills and create clear career pathways for staff, combining industrial and organisational psychology with AI.

We have loved watching Anne and Jo grow Fuel50 from their very first customer into a global business. Around 90% of their earnings now come from outside New Zealand, their clients include Roche, NetApp and EA, and they have a team of 65 across New Zealand and the US.

Fuel50 will continue under their own brand, with Jo leading as CEO.

“For 13 years, Anne and Jo have been standouts for their consistent communications, passion for their mission, and relentless dedication. The growth and success of Fuel50 is a testament to their tenacity and willingness to fly to every corner of the globe to close a deal.” - Robbie Paul, CEO, Icehouse Ventures.

Huge congratulations to Anne, Jo, and the entire team. We are proud to have been part of the journey! by @icehouseventures

Precision Chroma have raised a US$7.3m seed round to commercialise a world-first approach to pharmaceutical purification.

Founded by Sean Feast in 2022, Precision Chroma have developed 3D-printed chromatography technology that replaces multiple slow, expensive filtration steps in drug manufacturing with a single, faster process. 🧪🥽

When pharmaceutical companies make biopharmaceutical drugs, they need to extract therapeutic proteins from a complex bioreactor harvest containing cells and cellular debris. Before traditional chromatography can begin, that material must first go through costly clarification steps. Precision Chroma’s 3D-printed columns are designed to handle unclarified material directly, combining clarification and purification into a single, simplified workflow.

The team are running validation trials with AstraZeneca and have received funding from the US Government’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). The raise will fund a manufacturing plant in Christchurch and grow the team from six to ~17. by @icehouseventures

Meet the 2026 cohort of The Fellowship! 👏

Six high school students from across Aotearoa have been selected by @icehouseventures and @crimsonglobalacademy as our inaugural fellows.

We assessed each applicant much like we assess early-stage founders. Each fellow stood out for a different reason:

🎓 @realthomasgu - for pairing deep technical ambition with a talent for bringing people together around a shared interest

🎓 Aamena Mangera - for her sharp instinct to spot opportunities and act on them, guided by strong personal values

🎓 @nishkavanal_ - for her bold ambition and curiosity across medicine, technology, and entrepreneurship

🎓 Harper Lazelle - for her natural storytelling, distinctly creative perspective, and gift for communicating ideas

🎓 James Wang - for his practical engineering, experimental mindset, and willingness to share what he knows with his community

🎓 @peter__ishere - for his willingness to talk to users early, listen closely, and use what he learns to build better products

Over the next year, each fellow will receive $10,000 in funding to start and grow a business, take part in a programme with Icehouse Ventures (including mentorship, engagement with investors, and attendance at events), learn from founders, and have the opportunity to study at Crimson Global Academy.

Welcome to The Fellowship, Peter, Harper, Aamena, Thomas, Nishka, and James. We cannot wait to see what you create! by @icehouseventures

We had a major cow theme for the FW climate week NYC special.

@jackrangooni stepped up and took some amazing photos for the September NYC Flat White! Absolute content weapon!

@mikaele_ymker from @halterhq spoke about sustainability and fenceless farms. The work they do helps grass grow back more efficiently and cows are grazing in places not previously possible 🐄 🐮

Dr Tom Williams joined us from @number8bio who are reducing methane emissions from cows by 90%. They’re in commercial trials in Australia and going through FDA in the US. It’s a long road but this epic team is in it for the long haul 💊 🐄

@mason.bleakley is the newly minted US/NYC local for our friends at @icehouseventures. This legend has invested in some of NZs best startups and shared his own hustle story to pry open the door at 19! They’re looking to invest in the kiwi diaspora now too! With on the ground support for GTM motions into the states. Early 🚀 🇺🇸 🥝

This was the first morning we transformed @jewettfarms into a near functioning cafe with proper flat whites and pastries! Thanks to @icehouseventures and @jewettfarms for your love, support, (and patience). And @keanewzealand for always connecting. taken in New York, New York by @icehouseventures

Kiwi founders expanding to the US now have a local connection on the ground in New York, with Principal Mason Bleakley relocating to work alongside them. 🗽

For many New Zealand founders, the US is the next chapter. It is the epicentre for venture capital and technology, and arriving with the right relationships already in place can make a real difference.

“The objective is that a Kiwi founder landing in the US is not starting from zero.” - Mason Bleakley, Principal, Icehouse Ventures

Based in New York, with frequent trips to San Francisco, Mason will focus on building a community of Kiwi founders, investors, and operators in both cities, and on giving portfolio companies hands-on support with fundraising, hiring, and go-to-market.

If you are a Kiwi founder building in the US, or heading there, Mason would love to connect.

Huge congratulations to @jamiebeaton_phd and @sarahkennedy9845 on being named category winners at the @ey_newzealand Entrepreneur Of The Year New Zealand 2026 awards! 🎉

Jamie founded @crimsoneducation 10 years ago and has since grown it from an admissions consultancy helping Kiwi students get into the world's top universities into a global ecosystem of online education products that help students accelerate their studies. He won the Tech and Emerging Industries category.

Sarah, Founder and CEO of @calocurb, has taken New Zealand science and built an appetite management product now selling internationally, including leading the business to triple its revenue last year. She won the Product Entrepreneur category.

Two very different companies, both started here, and growing offshore.

A well deserved result for Jamie, Sarah and their teams, and for the rest of this year's winners: Patrick Moynahan (Echo Tech), Peter Shenoda (@bargainchemistnz), Lindsay Faithfull (McKay) and Pic Picot (@picspeanutbutter )! by @icehouseventures
