👻 DONE 💋! 15/06/25, on day 49, @borgeousland and I finished the Ellesmere expedition complete crossing unsupported from ⬆️ to ⬇️ . One big hug and ‘let’s go back home to our loved ones’.

From a polar perspective, Ellesmere is the kind of place that not many of us know. It can not compete with the attention drawn to the South Pole. However, it makes the South Pole and e.g. the Hercules route sound like a walk in the park 🤭.

Thank you for the Inuit community in Grise Fiord for letting us travel through their land.

To Laila Arnarulunnguaq and Laisa Watsko for opening their door. Laila offered me a beautiful pair of handmade coyote / silver fox mittens she did over a week of work. I hope to see you on the skis next season 🤗

To Meeka Kiguktak, the maire of Grise Fiord, who suddenly me asked at the airport in Grise: “are you one of the skier?” and spontaneously took me in her arms🥹.

To Terry Noah for sending information on the ice and snow conditions when we were getting close to the finish line 👊.

To Larry Audlaluk for taking the time at the very last minute to sign 6 of his precious book ´What I Remember, What I Know: The Life of a High Arctic Exile’. He was arriving from the south and we were boarding that same plane. I had to jump on him, sorry 😅.

Their history needs to be acknowledged more than ever so the dark past doesn’t repeat itself 😤.

I wish @caro.line.cote and I will take our son Leif up there to share some time in this community and experience the high latitudes of Nunavut. Ellesmere is a diamond 💛❤️🤍.

And thanks to all our partners, friends and family for supporting and believing in our project. It wasn’t only the two of us on the ice ✨

🇳🇴 ET VOILA 🇫🇷! The bottle of red 🍷Ousland-Colliard just got better and labeled «Premier Grand Cru Classé A» 👻. 47 days and 1100km+ later, Børge and I are standing at the Southern most point of Ellesmere Island completing a full traverse from the tip top all the way to the lowest rock.

More Facts. Terrain: 5 icecaps, 3 part of our Icelegacy project.Status: no pre depot, we carried everything from the start. We also used ski sails fpr approx. 60km (not worth bringing them). Mostly headwinds for the entire trip 🥵. Elevation: crazy! Need to calculate but this route was rarely flat. Hills and mountain passes… Extra: one close call with a polar bear encounter in the beginning and one miracle from a crevasse fall. Plan ahead? Still 55km of fjord/sea ice to ski to Grise Fiord. Expedition is not over yet so better keeping the guard up 👊.

Day 45 on a suffering attempt to cross Ellesmere island unsupported from top to bottom. Recap of the past days. Still winter when we are on top of the icecaps! We look forward to cocktails and boardshorts 🍹🩳. Currently battling the sticky snow 🤦‍♂️🤬. But we are doing great 😅♾️. Maybe last day on glacier ice tomorrow? Getting close 🤘👻

Day 40 of the current crossing of Ellesmere Island from North to South. Words from Børge and Vince regarding the importance of preserving these icecaps 🧊💙

Sh*** happened ☠️. Crevasse fall! Miraculously, no injury or more… just a scary moment where life’s balance was on the edge.

This occurred when we were on an exit arm glacier of the Agassiz icecap. Since, we let it sink in and decided to be transparent about it. We did big mistakes. We let our guard down as we were tired (26 days of hard labor on the body) and maybe acted too confident about what we were doing.

We know the drills though… blocking knot connected to the back of the sleds, max tension on the rope, easy access to the crevasse rescue kit / carrying it and so on.

Our guard is right back up with triple precautions 😤. We are still on the way to attempt an unsupported full crossing of Ellesmere island 🇨🇦. It was a magical moment to see the light of the sun again and away from the darkness of that hole 🥵.

Day 23, low visibility. Quote of the day: «let’s put our heads down and grind 😤. Still winter here at almost 2000m high on the Agassiz icecap 🥶

Day 20 of our attempt crossing Ellesmere Island unsupported from the Northern most tip to the very bottom. Today’s 17th of May means a lot to Norway. So! Gratulerer med dagen Norge 🇳🇴❤️

We had to spend 16 days in Resolute Bay waiting for ideal conditions to fly at our landing point at Ward Hunt Island, from there we went East to Cap Columbia the northenmost point of Ellesmere Island, where our expedition really begins. We had on our way a chance to see a cairn erected by the great explorer Robert Perry when he tried to go to the North Pole in 1909. Nice!
From there, we started going full south to reach the Markham Fjords where heavy powder snow surrounded us making much harder our way because of the weight of our sleds. Due to that weight, every half hour, we have to interchange ourselves to open the way. We are now on the ice cap where the conditions are more stable, it should go better!
More news to come shortly! ❄️
