In celebration of National Alumni Week, we're highlighting the journeys of our incredible ICHS Alumnae through "Alumni Then & Now"

Today, we feature our ICHSAA President, Carmela Azan Richards — Class of 1992

From class joker to leading the ICHS Alumnae Association, talk about a full-circle moment! 💙🤍

For Carmela Azan Richards, Class of 1992, Immaculate was a place of friendship, laughter and lessons that would remain with her long after graduation. Today, as a Director of Business and President of the ICHS Alumnae Association, she is giving back to the community that helped shape her.

Her journey is a reminder that success is built not only on talent, but on discipline, consistency, resilience and a willingness to serve others.

Her advice to the next generation? Do the work, trust the small efforts, and don’t be too hard on yourself along the way.

✨ Different eras. Different journeys. One Immaculate legacy.

Ad Astra per Aspera meets Labor Omnia Vincit 💙💚
The ICHS Alumnae Association, New York Chapter was proud to stand with our friends at the St. Jago Past Students’ Association (USA) Inc., New York Chapter for their O.R. Bell Laureate & Reunion Banquet at Antun’s this past Saturday September 19. They’re celebrating St. Jago’s 282nd anniversary and 40 years since SJPSA’s founding — and as a chapter that just celebrated our own 40th, we know exactly what that milestone means. Four decades of “serving others as we have been served.” Congratulations to the founding members and every Raven keeping that legacy alive. 🎉
When one Jamaican alumni association rises, we all rise. 🇯🇲

Happy first day, girls. 💙🤍

Wherever you’re reading this, Kingston, Queens, Miami, Brooklyn, London, Toronto, you know exactly what this morning felt like.

The uniform laid out the night before. Shoes you polished twice. A bag packed with everything, just in case. That walk to class with your stomach in knots, trying to look like you weren’t nervous.

And then assembly. All of us on the patio, the song going up over the buildings, and something in you settling. You’re an Immaculate girl!

Maybe that was 1967 for you. Maybe 1991. Maybe it was this morning, and you’re still finding your classroom.

Doesn’t matter. Same gate. Same blue and white. Same girls.

To the ones starting today - breathe. You’re going to be fine. There are thousands of us out here who walked that same path, and we’re all quietly rooting for you. Make good friends. Ask the questions. Sing loud at assembly.

Have a beautiful year. 🎉

Ad Astra per Aspera ✨

Alumnae — drop your class year below so she can see how big this family really is. 💙

🇯🇲 Independence Month closes the way it should — with gratitude.

At the Independence Church Service in the Bronx earlier this month, our President Karen Wilson-Robinson presented a plaque on behalf of the diaspora, alongside the President of the Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations (USA) Donovan Wilson. Days later, our board gathered around a dinner table in her honor. 🍽️

Two very different rooms, one message: Jamaica’s alumni associations in New York noticed the work, and we are grateful for it. 💚💛🖤

Sixty-four years on, this is what the diaspora looks like at its best — people who show up for each other, across schools and organizations, without being asked. Safe travels, Ambassador-designate. Tokyo is fortunate. 💙

🎨 Meet featured artist Paul Blackwood — live at our Annual Fish Fry! 🇯🇲

Swipe through a glimpse of his work: luminous Jamaican landscapes, soulful jazz scenes, and dancers caught mid-motion. From trees in full bloom to quiet riverside villages, Paul paints home like no one else.

He’ll have a table at the Fish Fry with original paintings and prints and here’s the beautiful part: a portion of every sale will be donated to our chapter to support our students at ICHS Kingston. So the piece you take home gives back, too. 💙
