September is suicide prevention month + CPTSD awareness month so I wanted to share some of my story again 💗

TW for suicide / suicidal ideation

Recently it was officially 10 years since my first suicide attempt but unfortunately my suicidal ideation started many years prior.
I first expressed suicidal thoughts to my mum when I was 8 years old which is when I began seeing a therapist. Things slowly worsened so I started seeing a psychiatrist at 13 who put me on my first anti depressant.
Since then I have seen many more psychiatrists and psychologists + have tried multiple medications. I am currently on my 13th psych who I’ve been seeing fortnightly for the last year and I’m on my 4th antidepressant.
Seeking professional help can be scary but both medication and therapy are so beneficial and I truly would not be here without the help I received.
I really recommend seeing someone if you’re struggling and know you do not need to hit rock bottom to seek help 🫶🏻

Another big aspect of my mental health and suicidal ideation is PMDD which I was diagnosed with in June.
I will go into more detail about what PMDD is another day but it’s like a severe form of PMS so I spend my luteal phase of every month feeling like I have hit rock bottom for no apparent reason.
For me that has meant 168 consecutive months of experiencing suicidal ideation for half of each month.
Finding out I had PMDD was such a big relief for me as it explained so much and now I am able to better prepare for and manage my luteal phase and the subsequent issues that come with it!

I feel so grateful to still be here because 15 year old me never thought i’d make it to 18, let alone 25.
Coming from someone who has dealt with CPTSD and suicidal ideation for 20ish years now, one of my favourite things to remind myself is that I have survived every hard thing life has thrown at me thus far and I will continue to not only survive but flourish!
So this is your reminder that life is worth living and you are strong enough to get through everything 🫶🏻❣️
I promise things will get better and you will be okay even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. sending love to anyone who may need it 🩷💞💘 by @iconicallykitty

today i am 6 years sober from alcohol !!! 🌟
my sobriety is something that is so important to me which is why i like reflecting and celebrating these milestones 🫶🏻

i come from a family where drinking and alcoholism has been very normalised, so from a young age i developed an incredibly unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
i was 15 when i started drinking and for the next 4 years it was my main coping mechanism. i have dealt with a lot of stress, trauma, chronic pain and anxiety over the years and alcohol seemed like the best way to numb these things for awhile.

before getting sober, sobriety wasn’t something i ever considered as a possibility. alcohol genuinely just felt like such a normal part of my life and i didn’t realise i had an issue with it due to how normalised it was in my family.

i’m forever thankful that i was able to get sober because i don’t think i would still be here if i hadn’t.
i never thought my life would look the way it does now and i am forever thankful to be where i am now 🫶🏻

also this is the first year celebrating sobriety where my mum is also sober with me!!! 🤩
she’s doing sober September and i’m hopeful that she will continue her sobriety journey!!! 💕

i got sober at 19, and my mum got sober curious at 64 🫶🏻
it is never too late or too early to make the decision to get sober!!!!! by @iconicallykitty

“it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then” 🌷💌🐇
it’s been a little over 2 months since i got the Alice dress from @katharinalouu and these photos are from the first time i wore it❣️
i have worn it so many times since then as it’s so incredibly comfortable and i always get compliments on it 🥹🫶🏻
one of my goals for 2026 was to focus on dressing in a way that was both comfortable and aligned with my personal style (dopamine dressing) so finding wonderful pieces like this truly means so much to me !!!! ✨ by @iconicallykitty

who knew getting approved for DSP would cause so much drama? 🤧💐
I have been publicly sharing my journey living with both chronic illnesses and mental health struggles for the past decade as a way to both raise awareness for invisible disabilities and share my personal story/journey.
Yesterday I decided to share a facebook post about my approval to let people know as I’ve been sharing updates throughout the application process. I received so much support but unfortunately some really horrible comments also.
(i have shown some of these comments in slides 4 & 5)

Unfortunately I have dealt with these kinds of ableist comments for a long time so it doesn’t surprise me how awful people can be but it does disappoint me. This is part of why I continue to raise awareness and share these things because 90% of disabled people are invisibly disabled. We are often experiencing either discomfort or pain yet constantly deal with this kind of treatment from able bodied people who aren’t able to comprehend that not all disabilities are visible.
There is truly so much ignorance around what it means to be disabled. Many people have a specific idea of what they think a disabled person should look like and if your disability isn’t visible they will assume it doesn’t exist. Disability does not have one specific look and you cannot tell if someone is disabled just by looking at them. Disabled people deserve respect regardless of whether they are visibly or invisibly disabled.

April was Autism Awareness Month and for those of you who don’t know, i am autistic!
this post is very late as i wanted to gather my thoughts and articulate myself as best i could and i was struggling lol 🫶🏻
I was diagnosed as autistic in September of 2025 and it honestly came as a big shock because no other health professional had ever mentioned it to me. It made a lot of sense though especially since women tend to be diagnosed a lot later in life!

finding out i was autistic had such a huge impact and was incredibly validating for me. I spent my entire life feeling as though something was inherently wrong with me because i felt like no matter what i did, i never fit in anywhere. I did my best to try and mimic mannerisms and behave similarly to those around me hoping to find acceptance, but i couldn’t understand why everything seemed to come naturally for others but not for me.

one of the hardest parts about getting diagnosed was acknowledging how often i’d been made to feel bad for things that were simply part of being autistic. i have often been perceived negatively due to behaving differently than what’s considered socially acceptable. for example, I’ve always been someone who gets overwhelmed and overstimulated easily, which is common when you’re autistic. however i have been made to feel bad for this which has led me to internalise things and shut down instead of expressing myself.
i also feel things very deeply but i often struggle to know what i’m feeling in the moment and may need time alone where i feel safe to be able to process things fully. this has caused people to see me as unemotional or unempathetic when in reality i’m hyper-emotional and empathetic, i just process things differently.
there are so many misconceptions and stereotypes about what autism is and how an autistic person should behave, especially when it comes to women. i think that’s part of why awareness is so important because in showing the different ways autism presents itself, it can allow people to feel less alone in how they may be feeling.

there’s so much more i could say about this topic but instagram has a word limit 💀💗 by @iconicallykitty

shellharbour trip 🌊
last week my friends and i went away for 5 nights !! unfortunately i got my period a few days before the trip so i wasn’t feeling great both physically and mentally so i spent a lot of the trip missing my cats!! i think being away from them was good for me though and reminded me that i can still function without them even if it’s hard 🥲💖 i had a therapy appointment whilst away and my therapist told me she was proud of me which was very slay 🤩🌟
thankfully despite my anxiety we still had a great trip!!! many games were played, we watched lots of things and also did lots of colouring!! 🫶🏻🌸 by @iconicallykitty
