On the national holiday set aside for him, we will honor Dr. King by showing how his concept of a “promissory note” in the 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech reveals a transformative understanding of the Founding of the United States. To make good on this solemn obligation would not just sustain the “dream” of a better America. It is required for the very survival of the nation.

As part of the Museum’s #MLKDay programming, register for the next in a series by Prof. Will Harris on Monday, January 15th, at 2:30 p.m.! Virtual and in-person options available.

Save this post and tag your travel bestie or bae for this fun and affordable day trip idea on @amtrak.

I was very impressed with Amtrak’s friendly and fantastic customer service, promptness, cleanliness and amenities (restroom, snack car, complimentary water and outlets for charging electronics - bring a charging block).

You’re also allowed to carry on items. Be sure to bring a light jacket if you’re cold natured, the train can get cool.

Greensboro Day Trip Deets:

🚝 Ticket: Use Amtrak’s super easy website or app to purchase your tickets from your closest station to your destination (Greensboro, NC, $22 roundtrip at the time of this post)

🚶🏽‍♀️🚗 Proximity: Walk four blocks or take an @Uber to downtown

🚃 Free Time: Peruse downtown’s local shops, ride the free trolley (at the time of this post) up and down Elm Street, then get lunch at 📍eatatcrafted - 220 S Elm St

Request for Ty to be your server.

I enjoyed:
Big Truck and Messenger Tacos 🌮
Duck Fat Braised Collards 🥬

🏢 Museum: Go to the International Civil Rights Center & Museum @icrcmgso to purchase and experience your “guided” tour ($20 per person at the time of this post)

🕐 The tour lasts roughly an hour with
no seating available, so wear comfortable shoes.
Ask for Angela to be your docent. The exhibit is very well executed. You won’t be disappointed!

💵 Please be sure to donate to the museum on your way out to help them continue to provide this great exhibit and more.

 5. 🚗 Transportation - Restaurant: Take an Uber to 📍@kaugreensboro - 2003 Yanceyville St. (Parking on both sides of the building)

Great portion sizes. Make a reservation.

I enjoyed:
Butcher Burger 🍔
Fries with Bone Marrow Butter 🍟
Short Rib Bowl 🥩
Kau Berry Fizz 🍹
Kau Old Fashion 🥃

 6. 🚗🚝 Transportation - Train Station: Take an Uber to the train station and get there early. The train is super prompt!

We hope you enjoy this easy and affordable experience!

Tag us if you go on this particular trip or are inspired to create your own day trip itinerary.

Happy Travels!

The Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette will be honored with the International Civil Rights Center & Museum’s highest award at its 2023 Gala on July 25, the day that marks the 63rd Anniversary of the success of the Greensboro Sit-Ins, when the F.W. Woolworth’s was racially integrated. The Museum had previously announced that U.S. Rep. Kweise Mfume would receive the award, but he has learned that essential congressional business will prevent his coming to Greensboro then.
