The Idaho Army National Guard’s State Aviation Group, working with the Boise Fire Department, hoisted an injured hiker off a remote stretch of Mount Idaho Saturday. The mission was the Idaho Army National Guard’s sixth successful rescue in 2026 and its second in July. The rescue, which occurred on Idaho’s seventh highest mountain near Mackay, was the state’s highest hoist search and rescue mission and involved multiple agencies, including the Custer County Sheriff's Office, Custer County Search and Rescue and Air St. Luke’s."We are once again impressed by the skill and bravery of the Idaho National Guard and Air St. Luke's performing a rescue in spontaneous inclement weather conditions over the Lost River Range," said Lincoln Zollinger, Custer County SAR coordinator. The hiker had fallen roughly 300 feet in the rugged Lost River Range and suffered a head injury. The Idaho Army National Guard was requested due to the difficult terrain, the high elevation and the UH-60 Black Hawks’s hoist capabilities. The UH-60 Black Hawk’s large engines allow it to operate at high elevation and it is outfitted with the state’s only hoist capabilities.“Our pilots and crew members train year-round for complex missions, integrating our community partners to perform technical and difficult search and rescue missions when our fellow citizens need us the most,” said Col. Jim Mandel, Idaho Army National Guard state aviation officer. “I couldn’t be prouder of this crew and the rest of the team with their successful rescue on Saturday.”The flight crew consisted of pilots Chief Warrant Office 4 Kevyn Sears and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Theron Cameron; crew chief Staff Sgt. Brad Stock and hoist operator Officer Candidate Jess Adamson. During the rescue, Adamson hoisted Boise Fire Department Cpt. Ryan Yates to the patient. The crew was then able to hoist the hiker into the aircraft and transport him to the base of the mountain, where he was flown by Air St. Luke’s to Idaho Falls for further medical treatment. by @idahonationalguard

Great teamwork today between Boise Fire and the Idaho Army National Guard.Together we worked to rescue an injured hiker on Mt. Idaho. While navigating an extremely technical flight and difficult terrain, crews were able to safely hoist the hiker off the mountain so they could be taken by air ambulance for medical care.These rescues don’t happen without a lot of training and teamwork. Nice work by everyone involved. by @idahonationalguard

Warrant Officer Candidate School Class 26-001 rolled up their sleeves this weekend at the Ronald McDonald House in downtown Boise! 💪 Candidates painted, cleaned up the grounds, and cooked meals for families of hospitalized children as part of their Civil Military Project, a WOCS tradition that builds community ties and team cohesion. This marks the second year in a row our warrant officer candidates have supported this incredible organization. ❤️ by @idahonationalguard

Last week, students of the 204th Regional Training Institute got hands-on time with the M1A2 Abrams main battle tank at Camp Orchard, Idaho.Despite range fires breaking out in the summer heat, firefighters cleared the way and our soldiers kept their focus downrange. Students fired the 120mm M256 smooth bore cannon and gained firsthand experience with the platform they'll be expected to operate and maintain in support of the nation's defense.This is what readiness looks like. by @idahonationalguard

On June 29, we dedicated our newest readiness center in Jerome in honor of former Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, who led our Guard as commander in chief from 1999 to 2006.This 55,000-square-foot facility is the first readiness center built in Idaho this century! It will soon be home to the 145th Light Support Battalion and its Vehicle Maintenance Facility, complete with modern classrooms, a learning center, secure equipment storage and more.Maj. Gen. Timothy J. Donnellan, former Idaho first lady Patricia Kempthorne, Lt. Gov. Scott Bedke and Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin A. Dean joined us to cut the ribbon and unveil a placard honoring Gov. Kempthorne's legacy."Naming this facility for Dirk is fitting because it reflects the way he led and who he chose to stand up for," said Lt. Gov. Bedke. "May it always honor his legacy and the service of every Soldier who passes through these doors." The Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy conducted a commencement ceremony for Class 26-1 June 19 at Calvary Chapel in Boise. One hundred and six cadets graduated from the 22-week program—the academy’s 25th class—bringing the total number of IDYCA graduates to 2,665 since the program began in January 2014. The Idaho Youth Challenge Academy is a volunteer program for at-risk 16- to 18-year-olds. Roughly 350 students apply to attend each class, which the academy holds twice a year. Academy graduates have gone on to attend college, participate in Job Corps, complete vocational education or join the U.S. military, including one graduate who participated in the Presidential Inauguration Air Force Honor Guard. The goal of the program is to give youth a second chance to become responsible and productive citizens by helping them improve their academic standing, life skills and employment potential. The program employs a highly structured format emphasizing discipline, personal responsibility and academic achievement while providing a positive, safe and secure learning environment.#idahonationalguard #IdahoYouthChallengeAcademy by @idahonationalguard

While patrol teams are often the most visible part of the mission, Kelly and fellow logisticians work behind the scenes to ensure thousands of Guardsmen have the equipment, supplies, food, and resources needed to succeed every day.Operating from Logistics Support Area Lincoln, Kelly helps sustain a force of approximately 4,500 National Guard members supporting public safety efforts across the nation's capital. The logistics hub serves as the central distribution point for mission-essential supplies, enabling rapid support to Soldiers and Airmen. by @idahonationalguard

During Cyber Discovery 2026 soldiers trained alongside fellow Guardsmen, civilian partners and the State of Idaho Office of Information Technology Services in early June.Cyber Discovery was built around a clear operational reality. If the Idaho National Guard is ever activated for a cybersecurity incident, the Office of Information Technology Services and civilian partners will respond alongside them. With that in mind, the agencies train together throughout the year, sharpening skills, mapping environments and building interoperability in preparation for an activation they hope never comes.“Cyber Discovery continues to build tangible operational readiness for the State of Idaho," said Jerred Edgar, Chief Information Security & Operations Officer, State of Idaho Office of Information Technology Services."Over the past year, the exercise expanded significantly as our partner organizations grew from 10 to 20, and participation increased from 94 to 135, with greater involvement from counties, cities, and private‑sector partners. We also added a physical security component and successfully tested remote participation to broaden access statewide."The exercise drew military teams from the Idaho Army National Guard, South Dakota Army National Guard and Alaska Air National Guard. During the exercise, a red team takes on the role of a foreign adversary launching a coordinated cyber-attack. A blue team works to detect the intrusion and mount an effective response not in a simulated environment, but on real networks with real consequences on the line."This year, we demonstrated that Idaho can rapidly surge its cyber defense capacity, effectively increasing our team by nearly tenfold during the exercise and completing the equivalent of six weeks of work in just a few days," Edgar said. On behalf of and in partnership with the descendants of the original Boise Valley People, the Idaho National Guard is proud to have participated in the 15th Annual Return of the Boise Valley People June 18-21. This annual event welcomes home the descendants of the valley’s original inhabitants, including members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes in Fort Hall, Idaho; Shoshone-Paiute Tribes in Owyhee, Nevada; Burns Paiute Tribe in Burns, Oregon; Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone in McDermitt, Nevada and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in Warm Springs, Oregon. This year's celebration included clutural demonstrations, traditional game cooking, a nature walk and key government-to-government consultations, including separate meetings between Tribal Council members, the Boise City Council President Merideth Stead and Adjutant General of Idaho Maj. Gen. Tim Donnellan.We remain committed to honoring this land’s original stewards and continuing to strengthen our relationship with their descendants. by @idahonationalguard

Last week, Charlie Company, 2nd of the 116th Cavalry Regiment (Mobile Infantry),116th CAV (MBCT) conducting Infantry Squad Vehicle familiarization training in Idaho City as part of the unit’s transition from a combined arms battalion to a mobile infantry battalion as part of the U.S. Army’s Transformation Initiative. Under the transition, the unit turned in its Abrams Main Battle Tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles for the more mobile Infantry Squad Vehicle. #idahonationalguard #usarmy #nationalguardbureau #infantrysquadvehicle #armyaction by @idahonationalguard
