🚨 Invisible Disibilities! 🚨

Hey! I was rehearsing this afternoon for a big run of December shows and I realised I actually wanna talk about my disability - Spinal Stenosis. Despite speaking openly about it, I am aware it’s still something a lot of people are unaware of and I thought a little infomercial might be handy and cast some light on this silly little diagnosis of mine.

CHRISSY CHLAPECKA 💖💫✨ Since the first video I saw, ‘hit him with your 🚗’ and ‘arson’ became part of the everyday vocabulary. Your brightness and humour helped lighten days that let’s be honest, being a woman is a blessing but so many can make it feel much less so. Until the day you showed us a bit of your singing voice and we lost our minds! And then the first song! And then another! I’ve taught so many burlesque classes to your songs and remember saying every time ‘everyone just wait she’ll be touring the world in no time’. AND LAST NIGHT I SAW YOU LIVE IN LONDON!! Chrissy gives me SO MUCH HOPE. The concert was such a glorious, safe space and there was nothing but joy and happiness and freedom in the space of a few hours, something I haven’t felt in a while. Could go on forever but, I get on my knees for Chrissy Chlapecka! 🙏🏻💖 @chrissychlapecka by @idasanguine

Some of my worst (or best) on-stage horror stories:

1. Bra snapped less than a minute into a 5 minute slow burn, few item removal act. Had to pretend like my boobs weren’t out for 5 minutes while removing two panel skirts 😂 It became rather artistic, almost Isadora Duncan-esque with the floating panels as distractions. There’s definitely a real act in that!

2. CORSET BROKE - I know we’ve all been there! This has happened more times than I can count, my favourite one was “tricking” an audience member to help remove it, and then acted as if he messed it up (he was in on the joke, don’t worry, and we had a laugh about it after!)

3. Heel snapped 30 seconds in - que a very sexy if awkward stripping out of my buckled dance shoes. Once free got a fabulous applause 😂

4. Forgot to put on pasties! THIS happened once and never again hahaha, and that’s why I always do a safety spin before final reveal to look down and make sure we didn’t imagine putting them on 😂

5. Broke my big toe joint mid act - ah, I had no idea how bad it was during the act - thank you adrenaline. But I’ll never forget the crunch it made 🥴

6. Ponytail extension went flying 💥 that one time you were rushing to get changed and didn’t do the hair whip test before going on - again, lessons learnt the hard way! Also, probably about three wigs… lean into the reveal hey 💁🏼‍♀️
