Embodied Gestures
Wolvencampprijs show with @_vpanova

André and Panova meet in their shared conviction that painting can be a form of embodied knowledge: a space where physical presence, memory, and experience come together.

Although the work of Ide André and Vesela Panova emerges from different starting points, both artists share a deep-rooted trust in painting as a carrier of embodied experience.

While André approaches painting through the physical act of painting itself, Panova begins from the emotional and bodily experience of motherhood.

In both practices, the canvas becomes a place where the body leaves traces — of movement, action, and memory.

The paintings are not primarily concerned with representing a subject or image. Instead, they carry the intensity of an experience within them.

The paint records touches, rhythms, gestures, and moments that are difficult to put into words. There is no predetermined visual outcome during the process of painting. The image emerges from a bodily experience that is part of the act of making.

Panova presents a selection of recent paintings made during her experience of motherhood. Each work carries its own experience within it.

André brings together paintings from a longer period in an arrangement that evokes the atmosphere of the studio. The works are placed leaning against one another and against the wall, shifting the attention away from the individual painting towards the position and attitude of the maker.

In this exhibition, painting does not simply describe or depict a personal experience, but also makes it tangible.

The body takes on several roles at once: it is maker and subject, instrument and carrier of memory. by @ide_andre

CASTING ROPES

Lately, I’ve been working in the background on a research project exploring the casting of ropes in metal. An expansion of my practice from painting into the sculptural. A way of turning my tools into my muse. Searching for rules and dogmas within new techniques. I don’t know how the project wil develop but I’m super happy with the first real results!

Het voelt kwetsbaar om dit te delen, maar ik draag alweer bijna zes maanden nieuw leven met mij mee. De angst om opnieuw afscheid te moeten nemen blijft oplaaien. Hoop neemt een vlucht met ieder schopje. Het is helend om met z’n vieren in de bergen te zijn. Machteloos om in al die schoonheid niet te kunnen omvatten waar Abby is, en haar in al die weelde ook bij ons te voelen. Om me neer te leggen bij hoe het verlies erin heeft gehakt. Ik me niet meer zo licht voel als vorige zomers. Hoe alles steeds weer eindigt en begint. We hopen dit kindje deze herfst in onze armen te kunnen sluiten. Voor nu wiegt het mee terwijl we wandelen, horen kleine oortjes Isa zingen en voelt het hopelijk hoe wij steeds meer durven dagdromen. Het hart weer open🌿🤍 by @ide_andre

*WOLVECAMP*🐺 (noticed the typo in the photo too late)

I’m happy and honoured to share that I am one of the three nominees for the Wolvecamp Prize 2026.

This year marks a new edition of the prize with a renewed format. Each artist nominated by the jury is invited to select a recently graduated artist whose work deserves greater visibility. Together, the nominated artist and their selected emerging artist will present a duo exhibition, from which the jury will choose the winning pair.

I selected Vesela Panova @_vpanova ,who graduated this summer from ArtEZ AKI @aki_art_and_design. Vesela creates powerful, expressive, and deeply embodied paintings exploring motherhood and childbirth. Her work is at once visceral and confrontational, yet also tender and carefully considered.

Together, we will present our work in a duo exhibition at Museum Hengelo. The exhibition opens on 5 September, when the winning duo will also be announced.

The other nominated artists and their selected emerging artists are:

* Simone Albers with Simon Scharinger
