"The Library of Babel" (1941), a most fascinating and ingenous short story by the Argentine author and librarian Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986), conceiving a vast universal library (the Universe?) containing all possible 410-page books of a certain format and character set.

To better understand and really put the enormity of the library and its contents into perspective visit the website https://libraryofbabel.info/ by Jonathan Basil and subsequently view the short movie "La Biblioteca De Babel" (2020) by James van den Elshout at https://jamesvde.com/la-biblioteca-de-babel

Douglas Hofstädter in "Gödel Escher Bach - An Eternal Golden Braid" (1979), Umberto Eco in "The Namo of the Rose" (1980) and Greg Bear in "The City at the End of Time" (2008) seem to be inspired by this short story.

Giotto di Bondone (1267-1337 ). The road to Calvary, 1304-1306.

Fresco, 200 x 185 cm. Part of the cycle showing the Life of Christ in the Capella Scrovegni (Arena Chapel), Padua.

The Scrovegni Chapel, which was dedicated to Santa Maria della Carità at the Feast of the Annunciation in 1303 and consecrated in 1305, was frescoed between 1303 and 1305 by Giotto and his team, upon the commission of Enrico degli Scrovegni.

There is a tradition that degli Scrovegni hired Giotto to atone for the sin of usury. Dante placed his father in the Seventh Circle of Hell for his notoriously ill-gotten gains (Inferno, canto VII), and Enrico himself was a moneylender on a grand scale.

It is one of the most important masterpieces of Western art. The frescoes, which narrate events in the lives of the Virgin Mary and Christ, cover the entire walls. On the wall opposite the altar there is the grandiose Universal Judgement, which concludes the story of human salvation.

The chapel was originally attached to the Scrovegni family palace, built after 1300, following the elliptical outline of the remains of the Roman arena.

Cradle of the skeleton sport and venue for skeleton in the 1928 and 1948 Olympic Winter Games is the SMTC & The Cresta Run in @stmoritz

Although the Netherlands were represented neither in the 1928 nor in the 1948 skeleton competitions, there were some remarkable good dutch Cresta Riders in the years before WW2: Jules Count van Bylandt, Anthony Fokker and Willem Baron Gevers. All three were also active on the bobsleigh track.

Van Bylandt (on photo standing), active on the Cresta since 1897 and on the bobtrack since 1904 was '...one of the most talented sportsmen ever to make an annual pilgrimage to St Moritz...'. In 1905 he was the fastest rider.

Antony Fokker (on photo with helmet) was a '...skeleton fanatic with considerable experience...' who while he always stated to ride the Cresta for his own amusement, regularly ended in a top three position.

Willem Gevers, who also represented the Netherlands in the twobob in the 1936 Olympic Wintergames, was one of fastest riders. In 1939 Gevers won the Grand National and was even dubbed 'World Champion'.

The Cresta tradition was later continued by Michiel Cohen a.k.a. 'the Flying Dutchman'. Present day Top Riders are Oscar Hattink (photo with silverware) and former @dutchsliding President Gawein Geraedts.

Still student teams from the Leidse Studenten Bobslee Club (photo), Amsterdam and Rotterdam take part in the University Challenge.
