Video for DJ Khaled “I DID IT” college scholarship contest.

When I was little, I only read books by non-black authors whose characters did not look like me. Thus, I decided to write my own children’s books, but sadly, no publishing company wanted to take a chance on me. With my dad, I overcame this obstacle by self-publishing my first children’s book when I was 7 years old. I’m now 18 years old and have 3 published children’s books under my belt.

Throughout this journey of being an author, I have inspired kids to love reading and follow their dreams. I’m a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Health & Societies. I will use the $10,000 scholarship to continue my pre-med education to be a pediatrician. I will also write more books for children and teens.

DJ Khalid is a great role model who has shown me that you should always go after what you want in life, work hard, and love your culture and family. #IDIDITCONTEST @wethebestfoundation @djkhaled by @ideyahbooks
