What if stopping is not failure, but freedom? In Idília Ramos' TEDxPraça Gil Eanes talk, she reflects on a life shaped by movement, work and the belief that continuing forward was always the answer. Through her own experience of burnout, loss, motherhood and building a school in Lagos, she explores what can change when we allow ourselves, and our children, to pause without needing to justify it. Family and Friends 🩵 by @idiliaramos
In January 2025, one of my students sent me a story saying that TEDx was coming to Lagos. I went to the event without imagining that day would change so much for me. At the end, they revealed the 2026 theme: Metamorphosis – The Beauty of Change. A butterfly appeared on the screen, and I found myself in tears. I love butterflies, and in that moment I decided: I’m going to prepare myself and apply. I knew I couldn’t do it alone. I reached out for help, met César Cervantes, and began preparing my application. Along the way, I realized that my story could also help others. The journey was far more challenging than I had imagined. I was recovering from burnout, recorded my application dozens of times, faced fear, self-doubt, and mental blocks during rehearsals. More than once I asked myself, “What have I got myself into?” The day before TEDx, I lost a very dear friend. Honestly, I didn’t know how I was going to step onto that stage. But I did it! It wasn’t perfect—and it didn’t need to be. It was authentic. And that was what mattered most. Months later, after almost giving up hope of seeing my talk published, I searched my name on YouTube… and there it was. This journey taught me that stillness is not a destination. It’s a lifelong path. I hope this talk inspires someone to live with more presence, better health, and greater happiness. 🎥 Link in bio. ❤️ #TEDx #TEDxPraçaGilEanes #Stillness #Metamorphosis #BurnoutRecovery MentalHealth PersonalGrowth Mindfulness PublicSpeaking Inspiration Photography * Nikola Senne @of.light.and.living * Jonathan Marion @jonathan.s.marion * Philip Houtekier @philiphoutekier Videography * Daniel Silva - daniel_photographer_filmmaker * Dave Kutschenreiter - @daveswaysnraves * Lindsey Franzke - @lindseyfranzke * Stanley Franzke - @stanleyfranzke Video Editing * Lindsey Franzke - @lindseyfranzke * Stanley Franzke - @stanleyfranzke Sound Technician * Justyna Krzyzaniak - @justyna3d by @idiliaramos
