A project we're proud to have helped bring to life.

Delivered for The David Bowie Centre at V&A East, this installation combines mirror polished stainless steel fabrication with bespoke furniture designed to support both conservation and the visitor experience.

Working alongside @idk_office and Alcema our team was responsible for the technical design, fabrication and installation of the costume display rail and custom exhibition table as part of a larger works package.

Very excited to share today that, as part of a curatorial team including Guan Lee (@grymsdykefarm), Maria McLintock (@mariaemclintock) and Ben Swaby Selig (@benswabyselig), IDK Director Mike Lim has been selected to curate the British Pavilion at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia 2027.

Our sincere thanks to the selection panel and Sevra Davis for their trust in this proposal and @britisharts wider team.

‘Celebrating the launch of the David Bowie Centre, opening this Saturday at @vam_east Storehouse.’

Appointed in 2023 as lead architect and designer, IDK has delivered this retrofit project that brings Bowie’s archive to the public for the first time. The design creates a functional working space for research, study, and learning, while offering a unique environment to experience his work, life and legacy. Visitors can book one-on-one time with their selections from the 90,000+ items in Bowie’s archive through the Storehouse’s Order an Object service and via appointments with the V&A Archives team. A revered and eclectic cultural icon, Bowie’s influence continues to span music, fashion, art, and performance - and the Centre offers a dynamic and innovative space to engage with his extraordinary impact.

It has been a real privilege to immerse ourselves in Bowie’s many worlds and to collaborate with the exceptional V&A team and our design partners. With huge thanks to all involved:

LA CITÉ DU TURFU | PALAIS DE TOKYO | PARIS 🚀 The @lacitéduturfu is on display in La Chambre Des Échos at the @palaisdetokyo in Paris till 11 May. 🌟 It was a unique chance to bring together all the speculative futures work done by young kids from asso_asad in La Courneuve since 2018! 🎉✨

“What does the city of the future look like?” 🤔🌆 This question gave birth to the editorial project La Cité du Turfu, initiated in 2018 and renewed in 2022 by Dome Collective in partnership with the association Asad. In each edition, a group of adolescents from La Courneuve uses the tools of science fiction and speculative storytelling to imagine the future of the Mail de Fontenay, an iconic building in the city that will soon be demolished as part of the urban redevelopment plan for the City of 4000. 🏙️🏗️

ARCHIVE PROJECT | MODULAR MUSEUM DISPLAY | 2024
Museum display concept drawn from collections of assembled modules, casings, and housings. Simple, pragmatic caseworks in standard sizes—adapted for different functions—are brought together to form unique configurations. 🧩

Stage sets 🎭, sound systems 🎶, display cases 🖼️, bars 🍹, digital cases 💻, object vitrines 🔍, interpretation panels 📜, graphic treatments 🎨, titles 🏷️, backdrops 🌅, tables 🍽️, seats 🪑, and furniture 🛋️ are all formed by a common collective language that is robust, easily reconfigurable, and customisable.

The modules are designed to be moved easily on a palette truck 🚚 or small forklift, meaning modules could be added, replaced, or adapted for future iterations as required. Units can be brought together to form single moments of collective impact, or dispersed as roaming activators across the space. 🌍

As the space undergoes redefinition, it can be an active site of programming that evolves with the narratives surrounding it. 📖 Simple and functional, but characterised and brought to life by the cultures it celebrates. 🎉 by @idk_office

CLEMATIS COTTAGE | Gloucestershire | 2022
The project involved the sustainable retrofit and restoration of Clematis Cottage 🏡, an early 19th-century building constructed in 1835 originally for cheesemaking 🧀. Unlike the yellow sandstone structures typical of Ebrington, this little red-brick barn stands out, possibly built by a wealthy farmer to distinguish his property. The challenge was to transform the tired, tiny cottage into a family home 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, maximizing space and natural light throughout the interior ☀️. Key updates included a double-aspect master bedroom 🛏️, a stylish Flemish glass-lit bathroom 🛁, vaulted ceilings on the upper floors, and a cozy, flowing atmosphere on the ground floor.

In addition to the spatial remodelling, a significant sustainable retrofit was undertaken to insulate the solid-walled, uninsulated building 🌿. All cement and gypsum-based plasters were removed, roofs repaired, chimneys repointed, porches reinstated, and the entire cottage was insulated with sustainable wood fiber and sheepswool insulation 🧶.
