a new normal - linocut print by me 🇲🇽🇵🇱

i think the last 12 months have been the most busy months of my life cus I moved, went overseas, made a ton of videos, something something LLC lol, so with all that in mind my printmaking output has been minimal

This print has sat in my drafts for a while but I wanted to share it with you guys and just write a little open letter

Thank you so much

It is a great honor to have had so much overwhelming support throughout these art circles from Dekalb, Elgin to even Chicago. It’s really cool that people thought my stuff was chill enough to wear or even display in their home. I never did an art gallery in my life, but in a way I didn’t need to do that cus my stuff was on display in the back of basements, coffee shops, or random venues. I still wanna do a art gallery some day tho lmk 😃

I’m never gonna quit making art or stuff, as matter of fact I’m pretty active with video work on @idktrains currently, but the illustrative stuff will be on hold for a bit as I catch up with life. I’ll be back soon though cus as always I have some plans. I’m adjusting to my new normal

I’ll see you soon,
Joel / Joelle

Duke Bonecrusher is a freak that lives up to his name. 🧟‍♂️

Once not too long ago, “Dukart Knochenbrecher” lazily worked for the Central City Circuit Committee (CCCC for short) as a sanitation manager. Once Anarchy Angel and demons started showing up throughout the city, he had to get off his fat ass and actually do some work. After a clean up operation went horribly wrong, he ended up getting fired. ⚠️

Angered and depressed, he makes a contract with a demon so he can enact revenge against the CCCC. Unfortunately, he bit off more than he can chew. He soon realizes the demon he paired up has more control over his body and mind, so he tries to drill a hole in his head. Remarkably, this didn’t help and now the situation is more dire. Also he has worms in his right hand. 🪱

🎃 HAPPY JOELTOBER 🎃 This character has been in my sketchbook for quite some time and I only got around to finally finishing it now, you’ll see more of him eventually.. Should I make stickers? A T-Shirt in the future perhaps? IDK LMK AND DON’T GET BRONCHITIS

🚃 “Roundabout Odyssey” – Intaglio Print @idkjoelle

When I was in elementary school, my grandma got sick, and for about half a year doctor visits became part of my weekly routine. Since no one could pick me up from school, my mom had to bring me along. During those months, I became obsessed with eerie high-rise buildings, the constant rain, and the screeching of CTA cars echoing through tunnels. I was too young to fully understand what was happening, but the mood at home was heavy with lost work, cancelled plans to move, and insurance coverage running out. Somehow this all inspired me enough to draw a train with feathered wings and a giant skyscraper with legs. Shout Out the Midwest I think 🤷‍♂️ I love life 💭

⭐️ I associate that time of my life with with the color grey so that inspired me to work on a copper plate with a lot of aqua tint. I haven’t made an etching project in so long but I thought it’d be a cool change of pace! The goal was to capture the feeling of a decaying modern world, continuing the themes from my “Tomorrow” and “AFK Today & Yesterday” prints.

✨ These prints are now available at idkjoelle.com, link in bio! Shipping will take about 2 weeks since I’m still printing this edition.

Does this piece remind you of any distant memories?

“Anarchy Angel” 👹 Linocut Print 10x12 by @idkjoelle

One night a boy named Angel reads a mysterious scripture and accidentally unleashes a swarm of Hellish Creatures into his world. As punishment, The Devil forces him to share consciousness with the disgraced angel named Anarchy. Together they form a blood pact and become The Anarchy Angel with the goal of hunting and recapturing all of the escaped demons.👺

I haven’t created a lot of new works in the last couple of months, but in January I was eager to work and finish up this print to break that hiatus! This is a character that I’ve redrawn a million times, I feel like everybody has that one “OC” that they just won’t let go 😇😇😇 I intend on putting together a little comic featuring this character - but I have to finish the several video projects LIKE 2014 DOC HAHAHAHAAH WHERE IS IT AHAHAH 😛I really wanted to experiment with bold lettering as a homage to manga covers, I don’t typically like including text in my works but I wanted to make an exception to really make the character pop out at the viewer. Stay tuned for more of this freak. Shoutout freaks.

“Tomorrow” Intaglio Print @idkjoelle 2023 ⭐️

I wanted to post a throwback piece before I shared my newest print. This was completed about two years ago and it was inspired by sprawling mega highways with a million gas stations and fast food places along the way. Felt inclined to post this while I’m staying in LA, I wonder why? 🤔 This was also one of the first t-shirts I ever made using a DTG printer and a bunch of these are scattered across Chicago.

I wanted to follow up with everyone - these last couple of months have been pretty busy so I took a bit of a hiatus from sharing new artwork. Nothing bad happened, but I def burnt myself out after a whole Summer/Fall of running around IL with boxes of art lmao. I’m back tho Back like I #NEVER left Ok. I have new shit on the way which I will be sharing soon so Check back cus the internet is Busy ⭐️

This Piece being like 54 million years old is scary cus i made it when i was a nervous 20 year old wreck just getting into making art for the first time since childhood, now I’m 23 years old and Now i have emotions and I can say words. Thank you to everyone who has sticked around on this strange journey of prints shirts alligators and midwest music show madness or Whatnot. I’m eternally grateful for everyone whose has pushed me to keep at it

My name is Joelle Thank u

“Awaken!” Reductive Woodcut Print 19x15

Awaken! is a special print to me. While working on this print, the first MDF board I was working on started to break off and chip during printing. Ultimately I had to grab another board and re-carve everything up to the third layer in order to finish - shoutout to my professor and the lab techs who were helping me cuz honestly I was losing my mind LOL..

When I initially drew this design I was going through a bunch of mental breakdown junk and I really sympathized with the character who was burning in a fiery pit. All the changes that were going on in my life at the time hit me like a truck and I didn’t know how to get back up. In retrospect I think all of that stuff had to happen for me to become who I am right now, I also think the print turned out cool. So that’s cool too. Happy Halloween.

(This is a repost from a print I made about a year ago when I was still in school. I wanted to share it again cus there’s a lot of newer people following me that haven’t really seen it and also I wanted to show a proper scan of it)

“Dream Sequence” Linocut Print 10x12 created for Sulkworm Album Release 10/25

Dream Sequence by Sulkworm out 10/25. Dream Sequence was an album I completed in 2022 after completing my freshman year in college. Recorded in-between bedrooms and basements, the album is a view into my late-teenage year angst. All songs written, produced, and mixed by me as always, the album will see its re-release on streaming on Friday, October 25. @sulkwormstagram

This print was a longtime coming, during the first release of this special album I provided promotional artwork for singles, posters and tees, but I didn’t have the chance to finish up the final album cover. Almost two years later and I got to complete that goal, and create something different than was originally intended. This print is now available on IDKJOELLE.COM. Make sure to check out the album on October 25th! @idkjoelle
