A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE TO EL ANATSUI AT 82 Today we celebrate more than a birthday, we honour a life that has quietly and profoundly reshaped the soul of contemporary art. El Anatsui’s journey has been about innovation, patience, resilience and transformation. From simple, discarded materials, he has revealed entire worlds of meaning, turning fragments into form, waste into wonder and the ordinary into the exquisite. What makes his work extraordinary is not only its scale and beauty, but also its depth . His art carries history without heaviness, power without noise, and presence without force. It speaks to the present and the future…rooted in Africa, yet belonging to the world. El Anatsui has taught us greatness is not loud and true mastery is often quiet, disciplined, and deeply intentional. Through his life’s work, he has given Africa not just visibility, but authority, showing the world that African creativity does not imitate global culture, it shapes it. To many of us in the art ecosystem, including artists, gallerists, curators, collectors, and art enthusiasts, he is more than a Master…he is a role model and a reference point for integrity, humility, excellence and purpose. At MYDRIM GALLERY, we celebrate El Anatsui as a global icon and a generous and compassionate man whose life has impacted many. His legacy therefore is not only in museums and collections, but in the minds he has awakened and the paths he has opened. Happy Birthday, Master. May your days continue to unfold with meaning, light, and quiet strength. May God bless and keep you sir. Happy 50th Birthday Mr. Damola Adepoju 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 As we look forward to your upcoming solo exhibition *Light*, may this new year bring you greater inspiration, success, joy, and fulfilment. Shine on, because your art surely does👌 by @idowubanky
Two weeks ago, we opened an exhibition at Mydrim Gallery titled “Dipped in Chocolate”🍫 🍫 a solo showcase of paintings by a remarkable artist, "Wallace Ejoh." We are still basking in the richness of the experience! Wallace Ejoh’s paintings are deeply inspired by the vibrancy and diversity of African culture. His subjects, rendered in luminous dark skin tones and adorned with Afrocentric and traditional African hairstyles, embody grace, strength, and beauty. Through this body of work, Ejoh seeks to reclaim, redefine, and elevate the narrative of Black beauty, placing emphasis on the inherent worth, dignity, and elegance of the African woman. The exhibition is still ongoing. We warmly invite you to experience it for yourself. No ticket required 👌 No registration needed👌 Just walk in and be immersed. #dippedInchocolate #MydrimGallery #artexhibition #contemporaryafricanart #blackbeauty #celebrateblackwomen #afroart #visualart #nigerianart #gallerylagos #supportafricanartists #artinlagos #culturalpride #africanwomanmagic #artcollector #lagosevents #thingstodoinlagos #ikoyi #exhibitionofpaintings #exhibition #internationalart #galleryart #galleryexhibition #instagram #feed #instagramreels by @idowubanky
