Orient meet Occident this time with: Casper David Friedrich x Ibn Battuta

For this work I choose maybe the most famous work of German Romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich. It has been considered one of the masterpieces of Romanticism and one of its most representative works. It resides in my hometown Museum the Kunsthalle Hamburg in Germany

Ibn Battuta was a Muslim Amazigh-Moroccan scholar, jurist and explorer who widely travelled the Old World, travelling more than any other explorer in pre-modern history. Over a period of thirty years, Ibn Battuta visited most of the Old World. He dictated an account of his journeys, titled „A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Travelling“ commonly nown as „The Rihla“

In Arabic Calligraphy is written:
I loved traveling away from human disloyalty. Grace comes with wisdom and good manners, not from bloodline and good looks. Travel! It leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller, “The Rihla” is a gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Travelling.
-Ibn Battuta

Also: Casper David Friedrich, Abu Abdallah Muhammad Ibn Battuta, The Rihla, Crypto elements as signature, Idriss Azougaye, Hamburg 2021
