i don’t think i will ever get used to talking in public, especially about poems that i’ve written alone, in the dark.

also, for some reason, i was much more nervous about presenting brown sugar in manila vs when we launched it in paris. so, to short-circuit the nerves, i pitched it to myself as a house party. yes, babe, we’re inviting our friends and sharing this moment over drinks. it will be a safe space, and there will be no overhead lighting.

true enough, the event was built from the ground up purely from the love of my friends.

- @augustineparedes my dear publisher, who saw my scratch papers and random iphone notes and thought they could be more

- @shayna.laine who always trusted my writing and offered the beautiful space at @nudefloor and the best support from the team

- @manogonzales for his amazing vision and for bringing the set design to life

- @ie_rugs for generously lending us their beautiful rugs to dress up the space

- @jptalapian who just performed at whole festival in berlin and went back to blend a hypnotizing tropical house party vibe

- @rajtrabaho whose amazing hosting skills reminded me that this was actually an event and not a house party

- @jpaulmans my dear friend from grade school thru soho nights in london, for handling the sales during the event

- @manibalang who knew each page of my lore and offered to design custom ceramics featuring lines from brown sugar

- @jervislivelo for capturing it all so beautifully

- @les_motsalabouche @gaysthewordbookshop @everythingsfineph for sharing the book with their community

and to everyone who came, to everyone who grabbed a copy and took the time to reach out, i thank you deeply. brown sugar used to be mine, and now it’s all ours

and manila. manila, manila, manila, i will always be your child ♡ ‧₊˚ ⋅ taken in Manila, Philippines by @ie_rugs
