What an amazing, packed world premiere we had last night in the Critics’ Picks competition section at the 29th @tallinnblacknightsff | PÖFF, with a title that made a powerful impact on both the audience and the critics (there are already some fantastic reviews out there)!

@chinasea.film —a bold, emotional gut-punch from director Jurgis Matulevičius (his second feature after the acclaimed historical debut Isaac) and breakout screenwriter @randomcconfusion (whose directorial debut Toxic became one of the most successful recent Baltic films)—is inspired by the real-life story of a Lithuanian MMA champion whose life ended tragically.

This gritty contemporary drama marks the first-ever Lithuania–Taiwan co-production, with additional support from Poland and the Czech Republic.
Featuring a powerhouse international cast led by global star @severijajanusauskaite China Sea is a raw, stylish, and unforgettable exploration of guilt, identity, and second chances.

Together with our festival director @tiinalokk I had the pleasure of welcoming director Jurgis Matulevičius, screenwriter Saulė Bliuvaitė, lead actor Marius Rapšys, producer Ieva Čern and her producing colleagues from Poland and the Czech Republic, as well as the outstanding cinematographer Bartosz Świniarski.
Dive into the photos (as always captured by our brilliant photographer @erlendstaub) and enjoy the atmosphere! And yes—there are still screenings ahead, so now is the moment to grab your tickets.
A huge Ačiū! to the entire team for bringing us a truly international co-production that will stay with us for a very long time. taken in Tallinn, Estonia by @ievacrn
