Black queer stories from across the diaspora rarely reach our screens. Monoyo Film Club exists to change that, one film and one conversation at a time.

For our first edition, we’re bringing ìfé: The Sequel to Minneapolis on Wednesday, November 18 at @zomahouse. Years after their love story began, Ife and Adaora reunite in Lagos and must decide what they’re willing to risk to choose each other.

Directed and produced by bimdizzle, this Nigerian love story follows queer women in a country where loving openly can cost you everything. The screening will be followed by a brief recorded conversation with the filmmaker and a guided discussion about love and relationships for queer folks. Doors open at 6 pm, and the screening starts at 6:30 pm.

RSVP for free now using the link in bio. Seats are limited. by @ife_thesequel

Accra, you were everything. 💜

What an incredible evening sharing ìfé: The Sequel with such a warm, generous, and engaged audience.

A huge thank you to @dramaqueensgh for hosting such a beautiful screening and for creating a space where stories like this can be seen, felt, and discussed with openness and care.

To everyone who came out, laughed, gasped, reflected, asked thoughtful questions, and stayed for the rich, vibrant conversation afterwards—thank you. Your energy filled the room and reminded us why we tell these stories in the first place.

There’s something really special about watching a film with people who are willing to lean into the difficult questions, celebrate the tender moments, and share pieces of themselves in return. That’s exactly what happened in Accra.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this screening possible—our hosts, partners, volunteers, and every single person who chose to spend their evening with us. You made this stop on ìfé: The Sequel‘s journey one we’ll never forget.

Until next time, Accra. Thank you for embracing Ife and Adaora with so much love. 💜

The other day, we had our first private screening of @ife_thesequel in Abuja, and my heart is so full. ❤️

There was laughter (exactly where I hoped there would be 😂), quiet moments, thoughtful conversations, a beautiful Q&A… and then, to my complete delight, a standing ovation at the end. 🥹👏🏾

One of my favourite parts of the evening was our little message book. People took the time to write down how the film made them feel, and reading those notes afterwards reminded me why we tell stories in the first place. I’ll be sharing some of them here too. They are so generous and deeply encouraging.

Thank you to everyone who came, watched, laughed, reflected, asked questions, stayed to chat, and made the evening feel so special. You gave this film such a warm embrace.

This is just the beginning. ❤️

You can still watch the film via link my bio☝🏾🥳

Nearly six years have passed since we last left off from the story between Ìfé and Adaora, two sapphic women in Lagos, Nigeria, who share a life-changing three days together. ‘Ìfé’ became a groundbreaking film in the landscape of Nigerian cinema as the first lesbian feature film from the country.

Now, Nigerian filmmaker and activist Pamela Adie brings the long-awaited follow-up to life, which just world premiered at BFI Flare. After having served as a producer on the first film, she adds a hat as both director and producer of the sequel.

Purple Hour sat down with the director to chat about the importance of attentive casting, eliminating conventional depictions of toxic masculinity, and the film as an exemplar in Nigeria and beyond for working toward a more just society.
