STOP THE PRETENSE!

Matthew 23:27-28
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness."

We like to blame it on being busy. "Life is hectic. Everyone has their own problems."

But that's not really it, is it?

It's something quieter. Something we've let seep in so slowly that we didn't notice until it was just... the way things are. We've adopted this unspoken rule, somewhere along the way, that unless your pain is loud enough to be undeniable, unless it's visible, urgent or impossible to look away from , it is your cross to carry it alone.

Your struggle has to earn an audience. It has to cross some invisible threshold of severity before anyone feels permitted to show up. Anything below that line? That's yours. This has become the norm and the part that breaks my heart the most is that we don't even question it anymore.

We've made "I'm fine" the only socially acceptable answer, and then we stopped listening closely enough to hear all the things hiding underneath it. The exhaustion. The loneliness. The slow, grinding weight of just trying to keep it together.

It's not that people are heartless. I genuinely don't believe that. It's that we've built a world so obsessed with independence, so allergic to need, that asking for help feels like weakness and offering it feels like overstepping. Like you might embarrass someone by noticing they're not okay.

So we look away. We keep moving. We tell ourselves they'd say something if it were really bad.

And meanwhile, we're all quietly drowning, just not dramatically enough for anyone to throw a rope. by @ifeoma_elechi
