- Ancient One -
The Bristlecone pines here are some of the oldest trees in the world, with some exceeding 4000 years in age! It’s amazing to think of all that has changed in human civilization in that time.
This spot was over 11,500 feet in elevation. I loved seeing the incredible trees, but once the sun set, it was 34 degrees F on the 4th of July! I would love to return sometime with more preparation (and all the upgraded camera gear and knowledge I’ve acquired since then).

Spent a couple nights up on the rim as part of my Milky Way season farewell tour. Always beautiful.

Definitely one of the bright spots sprinkled throughout an otherwise challenging year. All the photography adventures, going to amazing locations.. or just dark skies definitely was a constant and kept me going 🙌
Ending this year shedding all the negative and going into 2022 strong.

Hope everyone had an awesome holiday weekend and an amazing Labor Day.

Lately I've been messing around more and more with this new technique of painting my foreground images in my nightscape photos. Basically, you use the same settings you'd normally use for your sky images, but close down on your aperture to get more of your foreground in focus. For example: 14mm, ISO 3200, f/2, 10 seconds. But instead of shooting at with your aperture at f/2, you would shoot at f/5.6 and use your headlamp to paint the foreground subjects. The headlamp I use is the Nitecore HC65 that I picked up from @pro_camera_hawaii and it is absolutely perfect for this technique of imaging. Go check them out if you need a solid headlamp!

Moreover, to in order to fully light my foreground subjects, I take several separate exposures where I light the objects from different angles and directions. Later in post, I stack all the separate lightpainted images together to fully reveal my foreground.

This image was captured using my Sony A7R4, Sigma 14mm f/1.8, and my Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM, all of which I picked up from the crew at @pro_camera_hawaii. Thanks for always having the best gear!

✨THE ROAD TO THE MILKY WAY✨

Today is World Earth night.
Today in the cities at 10 p.m. lights that are not absolutely necessary are switched off. This should show you how dark it can really be and make you aware that some lights are actually not needed.😉
Switching off unnecessary lights would also reduce or even prevent the death of insects.
Of course, it also makes photographing the night sky easier as there is significantly less light pollution.
That is also a reason why I think this campaign is great. 😁

Heute ist "World Earth day"
Heute werden in den Städten um 22 uhr lichter die man nicht zwingend benötigt Abgeschaltet.
Dies soll zu einen zeigen wie dunkel es wirklich seinen kann und bewußt machen dass man manche lichter eigentlich garnicht braucht. 😉
Außerdem würde das ausschalten von unnötigen lichtern auch das Insektensterben verringern oder gar verhindern.
Natürlich macht es auch das Fotografieren des Nachthimmel einfacher, da es deutlich weniger lichtverschmutzung gibt.
Auch das ist ein Grund warum ich diese Aktion super finde. 😁

Temple of the Sun under Galactic Core.

I spent two nights in the Capital Reef National Park and was mesmerized by the Dark Skies and Open Spaces. The geography of this part of the American Southwest is already out of the World, under stars - it just takes the word 'enchanting' to a new level.
I will be returning again and again to chase stars, wander aimlessly just to be lost in the grandeur of our national park lands.
