We just debuted a ready-to-wear collection at the BROOKLYN MUSEUM during NYFW!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you GOD!!!!!!!! 😆🙌🏾 The title of this collection is “THE PROMISED LAND” and this gorgeous collection redefines the heavenly home. I was inspired by the colors of “THE PROMISED LAND,” from the shining yellow sun, to the green grass and beautiful blue sky, the colors of this land dance across looped textiles, blooming accents, and halo-framed structures. The “PROMISED LAND” promises not a new gift but one that has always been here, unapologetically. LOOK 10: “ROOTED” Dress We are our foremothers’ wildest dreams. I think about the women who came before us, who carried entire histories in their hands, passed wisdom through generations, and found ways to nurture beauty even in circumstances that tried to deny them joy. I think about our hair: our crowns. The coils, curls, braids, and locs that connect us to our heritage while allowing each of us to express ourselves uniquely. Our hair is not simply something to style. It is a part of our stories, our self-expression, and the beauty we inherit and redefine. I want black women to feel cherished―not merely admired for how they look, but celebrated for who they are. I want our identities to be woven into the future of fashion, not treated as footnotes to someone else’s story. “ROOTED” is a reminder that we can grow toward the future without abandoning the people and histories that brought us here. As the final look of this collection, this dress carries a message I hope extends beyond the clothes we wear: you can honor where you come from and still become everything you were meant to be. LOOK 9: “SOLIDARITY” Set I am not just building a fashion brand, I am building a legacy, and I want you to be part of it. As the founder of IGBO-SISUN, I am building something that means far more to me than clothing. I am building a world rooted in the belief that our identities deserve to be celebrated, our histories deserve to be honored, and our creativity deserves to occupy the highest levels of fashion. I want to create garments that make Black women feel seen. I want to bring our cultural narratives into contemporary fashion in ways that feel innovative, intentional, and unmistakably our own. But I know that building a vision of this magnitude takes more than one person. It takes people who are willing to believe in an independent designer before the rest of the world catches on. People who understand that behind every garment is a person investing their time, creativity, resources, and ambition into bringing something meaningful to life. People who recognize that when we support black creatives, we help create room for new ideas, new businesses, and new legacies to emerge. That is what “SOLIDARITY” means to me. When you purchase from IGBO-SISUN, you are helping us continue to create. When you share our work, you introduce this vision to someone who may never have encountered it. And when you tell someone about IGBO-SISUN, wear our designs, or recommend us to your community, you help an independent fashion house grow. Every gesture matters. Support us in bringing this vision to more people. LOOK 8: “ROOTED” Jeans What if your everyday wardrobe could say something meaningful about who you are? With “ROOTED,” I wanted to bring the cultural significance of our hair into a garment you can reach for in your closet again and again. These jeans transform an everyday essential into a statement of identity, heritage, and individuality. What makes “ROOTED” special is its ability to bring meaning into everyday dressing. Style them with a simple top when you want the denim to speak for itself, or pair them with your favorite statement pieces to create a look that reflects your individuality. Whether you’re heading out with friends, attending an event, or simply elevating your everyday wardrobe, “ROOTED” offers a distinctive way to express yourself without saying a word. When you purchase a piece from this collection, you’re not simply adding another garment to your closet. You’re supporting a black woman who’s committed to celebrating our identities, preserving our stories, excellence, and creating a legacy through clothing. LOOK 7: “UNSHAKEABLE” Set There is a particular kind of freedom that comes with deciding that you will no longer abandon yourself to make the world more comfortable. As a black trans woman, I understand that becoming yourself requires courage that other people may never fully comprehend. There is the courage to question what you have been taught about who you are, to honor what you know to be true within yourself, and to keep moving toward a life that reflects the person you know yourself to be. Sometimes, that journey means learning to stand firm in your identity even when the world doesn’t know how to receive you. For me, being “UNSHAKEABLE” is not about pretending that nothing hurts. It is not about never experiencing doubt, never feeling vulnerable, scared, or pretending to always have the strength to carry everything on my own. It is about knowing that even in moments of uncertainty, I remain deserving of dignity, respect, love, and the freedom to exist as myself. I believe there is something extraordinary about a person who chooses authenticity in a world that so often rewards conformity. I am not here to make myself smaller so that others can understand me. I am here to live fully, to create boldly, and to honor every part of the person I have become. Designer: @igbosisun Photographer: @rrrhia Muse: @taylorcassidyj Models: @uniekue @yasha_fierce @qetsiyab @ladeonamusi Hair Artists: @_.k45hify @chiemekaoffor BTS: @amanda.manassah #nzinga #africanhistory #africanqueen #blackfashiondesigner #africandesigner by @igbosisun
LOOK 6: “ANOINTED” Suit Excellence is about more than being the best at what you do. It is about understanding the significance of what you carry, honoring the people who helped shape you, and approaching your purpose with the intention it deserves. For me, excellence is important because representation alone is not enough. We deserve to see ourselves reflected in work that is intentional, imaginative, and executed with care. Our stories deserve to be told beautifully, and our creativity deserves to be taken seriously not because someone else grants it permission, but because of the value it possesses in its own right. The “ANOINTED” suit brings this philosophy to life through a refined beige silhouette adorned with IGBO-SISUN’s signature hair motif. I wanted to transform an intimate expression of Black identity into an unmistakable design statement. The hair motif celebrates our crowns, connecting the person wearing the garment to a heritage that is deeply personal and collectively meaningful. “ANOINTED” speaks to purpose: to the understanding that what we create, how we show up, and what we leave behind can carry meaning far beyond ourselves. For me, that means approaching fashion with the ambition to build something that lasts. That honors where we come from while creating possibilities for those who will come after us. I don’t want IGBO-SISUN to simply make beautiful clothes. I want our garments to remind people that they can take pride in their roots, express themselves unapologetically, and to pursue their ambitions without feeling that they must leave parts of themselves behind. Our lineage is worthy of excellence. Our stories are worthy of excellence. And the futures we are building deserve nothing less. Designer: @igbosisun Photographer: @rrrhia Muse: @taylorcassidyj Models: @uniekue @yasha_fierce @qetsiyab @ladeonamusi Hair Artists: @_.k45hify @chiemekaoffor BTS: @amanda.manassah #nzinga #africanhistory #africanqueen #blackfashiondesigner #africandesigner by @igbosisun
LOOK 5: “SOLIDARITY” Dress There’s a difference between standing alone and standing together. One speaks to what we can endure; the other reminds us of what we can accomplish. One of the most beautiful things about being part of a community is knowing that we don’t have to carry everything alone. Somewhere, there’s a woman who will remind you of your brilliance when you have forgotten it. A sister who will make room for you when the world tries to close its doors. A community that will celebrate your victories as though they were her own, because she understands that your elevation doesn’t require her diminishment. I believe there’s extraordinary power in this kind of love. Queen Nzinga’s legacy reminds us that sovereignty and “SOLIDARITY” are not opposing forces. When she encountered a situation designed to diminish her authority, she called upon her community to create a human throne. Her ability to negotiate at eye level with the Portuguese Governor became an enduring illustration of what can happen when people come together in service of something greater than themselves. “The Seat of Sovereignty” communicates this sense of belonging. Every crown tells an individual story, but together, our crowns remind us of the richness of the community we belong to. We can honor our individuality while recognizing the threads of history, culture, and experience that connect us. “SOLIDARITY” is a tribute to the women who hold us up, the sisters who walk beside us, and the communities that remind us of our power when the world attempts to make us forget it. Because sometimes, the most powerful throne is not built by one woman. It is built by many. Designer: @igbosisun Photographer: @rrrhia Muse: @taylorcassidyj Models: @uniekue @yasha_fierce @qetsiyab @ladeonamusi Hair Artists: @_.k45hify @chiemekaoffor BTS: @amanda.manassah #nzinga #africanhistory #africanqueen #blackfashiondesigner #africandesigner by @igbosisun
LOOK 4: “ROOTED” Half Zip Top and the “UNBOWED” Jeans Before we ever knew our own names, we belonged to a story. There’s something extraordinary about understanding that you are part of something that began long before you. That your existence is connected to people whose names you may never know, whose hands you may never hold, and whose stories you may only encounter in fragments, yet whose lives helped make yours possible. Being “ROOTED” honors that connection. It’s finding beauty in the knowledge that we come from women who were victorious, who persevered, and who triumphed, even when the world didn’t make it easy. Clothing is my opportunity to bring our lineage into the present. I don’t want our histories to exist only in textbooks, museums, or conversations about the past. I want them to live on our bodies, move through our everyday lives, and become part of the stories we tell about ourselves. This is one of the reasons hair remains central to IGBO-SISUN’s visual language. Our hair is deeply personal, yet it also connects us to something collective. Through IGBO-SISUN’s signature hair motif, we celebrate the beauty of our crowns as expressions of identity, creativity, and ancestral connection. What grows from us can remind us of where we come from. “ROOTED” is an invitation to embrace every part of yourself that connects you to your lineage. To celebrate the traditions that have been passed down, reclaim the histories that have been overlooked, and create new traditions worthy of those who will come after us. Because knowing where we come from doesn’t mean we must remain where we began. It means we can move through the world with a deeper understanding of ourself. We can grow in new directions without abandoning our foundation. We can become someone entirely our own while carrying the beauty of those who came before us. Designer: @igbosisun Photographer: @rrrhia Muse: @taylorcassidyj Models: @uniekue @yasha_fierce @qetsiyab @ladeonamusi Hair Artists: @_.k45hify @chiemekaoffor BTS: @amanda.manassah #nzinga #africanhistory #africanqueen #blackfashiondesigner #africandesigner by @igbosisun
LOOK 3: “UNSHAKEABLE” Dress Some women have endured storms that the world will never know about, yet they continue to show up with grace, love, and a beauty that refuses to be extinguished. There’s a particular kind of power that lives within black women. It’s found in the women who’ve had to rebuild themselves in silence, who’ve carried the weight of generations while making room for their own dreams, and who’ve continued to create beauty in a world that hasn’t always been gentle with them. Sometimes, it’s simply the decision to keep going. To keep believing that a life filled with beauty, tenderness, and possibility is still within reach. With “UNSHAKEABLE,” I wanted to celebrate that spirit. Purple has long been associated with royalty, dignity, and power. Within this collection, it becomes a reminder that our greatness doesn’t disappear when we encounter hardship. Our circumstances may challenge us, our journeys may change us, and the world may attempt to define us by what we have survived, but none of these things can tell the full story of who we are. Our hair reminds us that we come from somewhere, that we belong to a lineage, and that there’s a history of strength woven into our very existence. We’re not beginning our stories from nothing. We carry the resilience, creativity, and brilliance of those who came before us. I want the woman who wears “UNSHAKEABLE” to feel powerful without having to prove her strength, beautiful without having to seek validation, and worthy without having to earn the right to exist unapologetically. I want her to remember that she can be gentle and resilient, vulnerable and courageous, still healing and still extraordinary. Because being “UNSHAKEABLE” doesn’t mean that nothing can hurt you. It means that what hurts you doesn’t get to determine your worth, and what challenges you don’t get to write the ending of your story. Designer: @igbosisun Photographer: @rrrhia Muse: @taylorcassidyj Models: @uniekue @yasha_fierce @qetsiyab @ladeonamusi Hair Artists: @_.k45hify @chiemekaoffor BTS: @amanda.manassah #nzinga #africanhistory #africanqueen #blackfashiondesigner #africandesigner by @igbosisun
LOOK 2: “ANOINTED” Dress There’s a difference between being recognized for your greatness and knowing that greatness has always lived within you. I designed “The Seat of Sovereignty” with Black women in mind: women whose beauty, brilliance, and presence deserve to be celebrated without qualification. With “ANOINTED,” I explored the idea of carrying something sacred within you, an inheritance that cannot be purchased, imitated, or taken away. It is the quiet certainty of knowing who you are, understanding whose shoulders you stand upon, and honoring the generations that made your existence possible. Our hair holds so much of this story. It is an expression of our individuality, a connection to our foremothers, and a form of beauty that carries meaning far beyond aesthetics. With “ANOINTED,” I transform this symbolism into ready to wear, allowing our crowns to become an integral part of the garments we create. Each strand serves as a reminder that what we carry is worthy of being seen, celebrated, and passed on. “ANOINTED” speaks to the woman who does not need to become someone else to be extraordinary. She embraces her softness without surrendering her strength, celebrates her beauty without seeking permission, and honors her heritage without needing to explain its significance to anyone. She understands that there is power in knowing where she comes from and even greater power in deciding what she will leave behind. I want every woman who wears IGBO-SISUN to feel that connection: to feel confident, to feel cherished, and to recognize herself as part of a legacy far greater than herself. Because fashion can do more than adorn the body. It can affirm identity, preserve memory, and remind us of the beauty we have sometimes been taught to overlook in ourselves.
