IGNITE is bringing Up + Atom Sport & Science Camp to Glace Bay, New Glasgow, and East Preston this August!Designed for BIPOC and other historically underrepresented youth ages 9-14, this free two-day camp combines hands-on science with fun, active sports in an environment where curiosity, confidence, and belonging come first.A special thank you to @michelin, whose support is helping make this program possible and ensuring more youth have access to engaging STEM and sport experiences in their communities.The @discoverycentrehalifax will lead campers through exciting, hands-on STEM activities, while sports programming will feature sessions with the @hfxwanderersfc, @gocapersgo, and the NNEC Gryphons, giving youth the opportunity to learn from experienced athletes and coaches.Participants will:🧪 Explore exciting STEM activities🏀 Stay active through sports and team challenges🤝 Build new friendships and confidence💡 See themselves reflected in science, technology, and innovationWhether your child already loves STEM or is just beginning to explore it, Up + Atom is all about creating opportunities to learn, play, and discover what's possible.📍 Glace Bay: August 5-6📍 New Glasgow: August 19-20📍 East Preston: August 26-27Spots are limited and advance registration is required. What a way to kick off the 2026 $100 Youth Startup Challenge! 🚀Last week, our young entrepreneurs in Whitney Pier and New Glasgow spent five days turning big ideas into real businesses. From brainstorming and branding to creating products and making sales, they embraced every step of the entrepreneurial journey.The week wrapped up with two fantastic market days, where participants proudly showcased their businesses and sold their products to members of the community.A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to shop, support, and encourage these young entrepreneurs. Your enthusiasm and encouragement helped make their first business ventures a memorable success.Next up, we're heading to Whycocomagh and Yarmouth, where another group of aspiring entrepreneurs will take on the $100 Youth Startup Challenge next week. What a way to kick off the summer! ☀️🌊Last night, we had the pleasure of cohosting the Summer Partner Social alongside Invest Nova Scotia, the Yarmouth & Area Chamber of Commerce, Western Regional Enterprise Network, and CBDC Yarmouth at one of Nova Scotia's most iconic locations, the Cape Forchu Lighthouse.From climbing the lighthouse and taking in the incredible coastal views to enjoying live entertainment, delicious catering from Blueberry Fields, and great conversations with entrepreneurs, business leaders, and community partners, it was an evening full of connection and community.A big thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the start of summer. Another Atlantic Venture Forum is in the books, and what a week it was.We were proud to be part of AVF 2026 as a Digital Marketing Partner, connecting with founders, investors, and ecosystem leaders from across Atlantic Canada and beyond.The week kicked off with the Startup Atlantic Kitchen Party: Collide & Connect, where hundreds of members of the startup community came together to reconnect, meet new faces, and start the week with a little East Coast hospitality.Throughout the conference, our CEO Doug Jones joined the Scaleup Showcase panel alongside Shelley Hessian (Springboard Atlantic), Garron Helman (GrowWise Partners), and Jason Turner (Saint Mary's University) to discuss growth capital and scaling opportunities for Atlantic Canadian companies. It was especially exciting to see IGNITE residents SEVO Bioscience and Virtual Hallway featured among the companies highlighted during the showcase.Another highlight of the week was joining Seema Aggarwal and the team at Dentons, who hosted an evening at The Press Gang. We were pleased to bring several IGNITE resident companies and winners of the INMC Pitch Competition together for a night of great food, meaningful conversations, and new connections outside the conference.A big thank you to Startup Atlantic and the entire AVF team for another incredible event. This week, we shared the results of the South Shore Rural Innovation Index with community members, partners, and municipal leaders from across the region.Over the past several months, IGNITE Atlantic worked with the Town of Bridgewater, Municipality of Chester, Town of Lunenburg, Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, and Region of Queens Municipality to pilot a new approach to understanding rural innovation.Through surveys, interviews, and community engagement, the project explored what helps innovation thrive on the South Shore and where opportunities exist to strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem.Thank you to everyone who completed a survey, participated in interviews, and joined us for this week’s presentation.
