Many thanks to the team at Sydenham Arts for organising this, and to @ignitionbrewery for the warm welcome. A special mention to Tim Brookes, author of the brilliant book By Hand, who travelled all the way from Cambridge to join our class. We wish him every success with his book release!

@ignitionbrewery Taproom in #Sydenham is not only a fabulous live music venue with home brewed ales but is also a wonderful social enterprise that trains and employs adults with learning difficulties. Their brewers and bar staff have learning disabilities or are neurodivergent and we love that because everyone has the right to a fair wage and a full life!

We are delighted that The Taproom will be the home of the #winterjamsessions2026 so don’t miss the first jam of the season!! 18th October - open jam from 5-6pm and a great day of live music from 2pm until 9pm.

A local screening of the new film from the National Emergency Briefing - a public information initiative on the climate and nature crisis.

📢 A special community screening: The People's Emergency Briefing #PEBuk

What's happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK?

Join us for a screening of the People's Emergency Briefing - an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like:

🌧️ Extreme weather🍞 Food security🏥 Health💷 Cost of living

The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the UK.

After the film there will be a short panel discussion with Sareta Puri, diversity and food justice expert, about what it means for our community and what we can do locally.

We have invited the local MP, Ellie Reeves, and are optimistic that they will join with constituents for this important discussion about our future.

Seats are free but limited so please book in advance.

Bring a friend, neighbour or family member: everyone is welcome.

Link to book in bio.

Please see NEB website for further information:

Orisha Songs Workshop

28th September 2026 6:30-9:30pm
Ignition Brewery, Sydenham SE26

What is the OSW?

An informal, community-focused gathering to learn and share songs for the Orishas in the Afro-Cuban/Lukumí tradition. Open to anyone who wants to expand their repertoire and deepen their understanding of traditional cantos in a practical, supportive setting.

I usually lead the session and bring material to work on, but the space is intentionally collaborative. Anyone who would like to bring songs, suggest repertoire, or sing lead is encouraged to do so. The aim is collective learning, shared knowledge, and strengthening our connection to the tradition together. by @ignitionbrewery
