Back to Say Say Say… but this time on guitar.

There's something about stepping away from the original arrangement and just letting the song breathe in a different way.Not trying to recreate it — just respond to it.

This one might be my favorite so far.There's something in it I can't quite put into words yet… but it feels different.

Maybe it's the freedom.Maybe it's just how strong the song is at its core.

Throwback to earlier this year.

7 Days — Sting.

This one's definitely making its way onto the acoustic album.There's something about the movement in this song — the phrasing, the harmony — that just stays with you.

Ten Summoner's Tales has been one of my favorite records for a long time now.So much depth in the writing… it keeps revealing new things every time I come back to it.

And the timing of this feels kind of special — I'll actually be seeing Sting in a few days, performing The Last Ship.Another incredible body of work, and one that ties back into The Soul Cages in a really meaningful way.

It's all connected.Different chapters, same voice.
Really looking forward to revisiting this one again soon.

Throwback to earlier this year.

Golden Slumbers — The Beatles.

I didn't get the chance to fully explore this one when I first recorded it… but even in this moment, there's something really gentle and complete about it.
Sometimes a song doesn't need much.Just space… and a little attention.

I also leaned into the visual side here — painted frames and slowed everything down to 7fps.It starts to feel less like video… and more like memory.
Soft edges.Time stretching a bit.

Definitely one I want to return to soon.Feels like there's more waiting inside it.

Throwback to earlier this year.

Built this one from the ground up — drums first, then laying in the bassline after.

Recorded separately, stitched together later… but held together by that constant click in the background.And even then — you can hear it drift a bit. In and out. Not perfectly locked.

But honestly… that's the part I like.

There's something about human time — the slight push and pull — that gives it life.Not everything needs to sit exactly on the grid to feel right.
Sometimes the groove lives between the lines.

Throwback to earlier this year.

This one's called Soak.

It came from a place of trying to understand someone…watching them shift, unravel a bit… and not knowing how to reach them anymore.
There's tension in it — between care and confusion. Knowing you're still in the process of building stability in your own life… while watching others willingly throw hurtful bravado around, while in the midst of seemingly losing themselves to their own despair.

Some of the lines still hit me the same way:"All of your words soaked in despair…" and "How was you raised on bravado?"

Not everything needs resolution. Plenty of songs just need to hold questions.

Back to the fundamentals.

This is a fingerstyle exercise from Tommy Emmanuel — and wow… humbling in the best way.

There's a level of control, independence, and groove in his playing that feels almost unreal.Trying to even get a piece of that into my hands is a workout.
But it also feels like a doorway.Like if I just stay consistent with this kind of practice… things could really open up over time.

One year of showing up like this?That could change everything.

For now — just taking it one pattern, one repetition at a time.

In between trying to figure out what's next… work, direction, all of it…I found myself back here. Guitar in hand. Just playing.

It's not always easy right now.Feels like a lot of people are searching, adjusting, taking whatever steps they can — even if it looks different than what they imagined.

But moments like this help.They remind me there's still something steady underneath it all.

From chasing a chord progression…to remembering old high school favorites on piano runs…to sitting (well, standing, I guess) in a backyard with a candidate for the acoustic Stevie ep…
…and now this.

Say Say Say — McCartney and Jackson — back at the keys.

There's a thread running through all of these lately.Just taking the time to sit with songs that meant something at different points in my life… and realizing how much care, craft, and playfulness went into them.

We move so fast most days — always onto the next thing.But these moments… just sitting, listening, playing…they feel like a reset.

Like a quiet conversation with the people who made the music in the first place.

Grateful for the space to slow down and channel even a small piece of that magic.

Still can't quite believe I get to play music in a space like this.

This is Smile Please by Stevie Wonder — stripped back to acoustic, out in the backyard.Somehow the trees, the light, the whole environment… it all starts to feel like part of the rhythm.

There's something different about playing outside — you don't control the space the same way. You listen more. You adjust. You let it breathe.

Grateful for this moment… and for the quiet "tree guardians" keeping time with me.

Throwback to earlier this year.
Working through The Boys Are Back In Town — The Gap Band.
Focusing on the chorus here — piano and vocal — getting it ready for a live setting… whenever that moment comes.
There's a certain kind of energy in this music that just doesn't fade.The Gap Band, Earth, Wind & Fire… Stevie…that's a whole universe right there.
If there's a way to bring back a certain kind of musical magic — it's in that pocket.Groove, joy, precision, and soul all moving together.

Some songs just stay with you.

Rapunzel by Dave Matthews Band is one of those for me — I remember playing this back in high school and just getting lost in that energy.

Here I'm working through the piano run under that wild vocal section — trying to lock back into the pacing and feel. It's one of those parts that doesn't really sit still… you have to ride it more than control it.

It's funny how your hands remember things before your brain fully catches up.

Still shaking the dust off this one — but man, it's fun to revisit.
