On one of our September professional development days, teachers visited Cafe Joyeux for a team building outing. @cafejoyeuxus is a coffee shop in Midtown Manhattan that employs individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and promotes inclusivity in the workplace. We love making connections in our Midtown community, and our teachers now have a great new spot for their caffeine fix! ☕️ by @ihopenyc

After art class with Alba last Friday, Ibrahim wanted to say a few words to express how happy he was. If you listen closely, he uses his communication device to say, “Thank you, goodbye, see you later alligator, after a while crocodile, I love you!”

Not only is this a sweet moment on its own, but Ibrahim can be a little shy around new people, or those he isn’t really familiar with, so for him to feel comfortable enough to speak to Alba like this is amazing! Go Ibrahim! by @ihopenyc

A shift from our usual content today, though it is still just as important to us as our students are.

The story of John Abruzzo and his coworkers is just one example of how easy it can be to be a hero. Proper evacuation equipment and procedures are essential for not only individuals like our students but everyone in the world. Take the time today to brush up on your evacuation protocol. See if you have the proper evacuation chairs, slings, or mats. Familiarize yourself with their use. Remember to practice being kind, immerse yourself in your community, and tell the people you hold near and dear to your heart you love them.

And please never forget what we learned 25 years ago: the ordinary always has the capability to become extraordinary. That’s just the New York in us. by @ihopenyc
