POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It was a pleasure to screen my film Who Made You at Gi ffoni Youth Film Festival in North Macedonia. We had an hour-long Q&A with an enormous number of questions about the making of the film, the future of AI, and how we want to use AI. I also realized how special a film we made back in 2016–2017, when only a small group of people were thinking about AI ethics and development, and about how AI will irreversibly change the way we live. My vision behind making the film was to capture scenes where humankind meets a new species. Those moments still make people laugh and marvel in my film. I'm proud that we dared to make a creative documentary film on such a challenging subject even then. by @iirisel

Best International Documentary Feature Film: Mother of Snow Cranes

Iiris Härmä - Finland
01:18:00

Over 90 years old, Ellen Vuosalo has lived many lives. First as a Finnish immigrant in Canada, then as an American citizen and student of zoology at UCLA and finally as a Mother of Cranes in Iran. Iiris Härmä's Mother of Snow Cranes tells the story of an incredible woman's extraordinary life, from love to tragedy to revolution. It is a story about nature, humanity, and the role of women in both the West and Iranian culture. Or as Ellen herself says " What a life! What a world!" taken in Institut français de Turquie / Türkiye Fransız Kültür Merkezi by @iirisel

Ellen observed the migration of cranes and always waited for them to return. The cranes became extinct in Iran, but Ellen's story remains with us as a reminder of the fragility of nature and our duty to protect it. This week, our film will be screened in Uruguay at the international Cine Fem Festival, an event celebrating women's stories. Hurray for Ellen, we remember you! @avekfi @elokuvasaatio @yle @kurkienaitielokuva by @iirisel
