🌿 Thrilled to have been part of “Imagine Regenerative Futures” in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, presented by @solarpunkcambodia and Clean Energy Week! Curated by @migueljeronimophotography , the exhibition explored ancestral wisdom and sustainable visions for what lies ahead.

My featured piece, “Bagobo” (A2, Digital Print, 1/1 Edition), redefines resilience through decolonial minimalism. By distilling intricate indigenous patterns into fundamental geometric forms and solid pillars, the artwork pushes back against extractive narratives of “bouncing back.” Instead, it grounds true resilience in reclaiming agency, honoring ancestral roots, and co-creating a regenerative world alongside our ecosystems.

🎥 You can catch a glimpse of my work at the 0:18 mark in the video!

Grateful to the organizers, curators, and fellow artists for holding space for these living blueprints of the future! ✨🎨

Note: The digital artwork print is for sale. For inquiries, please contact Miguel or Solarpunk Cambodia via Instagram.

I retired wannabelabs.com and switched to Google Sites to keep things simple, free, and easy to maintain. Managing custom web hosting was taking extra time and effort that I’d rather spend making art and writing.

The new site https://sites.google.com/view/ijwbaa/home gives me a clean, reliable place to share my projects, academic news, and updates with zero hassle. You can still find old pages on the Wayback Machine, but all new work lives at the new link!

IJWBAA inclusion in the Art Future Club (AFC)—an international platform headquartered across key art hubs such as Hong Kong, London, New York, and Milan—functions as a formal global endorsement of IJWBAA’s role as a key Philippine figure in Digital Art and Techspressionism. Crucially, this exposure positions his theoretical framework of Decolonial Minimalism before an international network of curators and cultural institutions.

I deeply look up to Imelda Endaya and Nunelucio Alvarado (our new National Artists in Visual Arts) because they used their art to give voice to the nation, women, and marginalized to uphold true Filipino identity—a mission I continue in the digital space to prove new media can decolonize and honor our history.

I never planned to be a digital artist.
I was trying to survive.

Nights were spent with an old laptop, iPad, phone, and the glow of a screen—while my body battled weakness, sickness, exhaustion, and severe bouts of anxiety attacks. Rent, bills, and outside pressures chased me, but I couldn’t keep up. So I turned inward—into pixels, colors, fragments of myself built in silence.

At first, it was necessity: a way to earn despite my health struggles. But survival slowly became vision. Each click, each brushstroke carried pain, yet sparked freedom. Illness became expression. Weakness became declaration.

Now they call me a digital artist. IJWBAA. Techspressionist. Decolonial Minimalist. Labels I never chased, but they found me. All I chased was breath—and art became the air I learned to breathe.

I didn’t plan to be a digital artist.
But survival, with a body still fighting, taught me how to create.

My heart goes out to Yayoi Kusama and the immense struggle she endured throughout her life. The loss is profound, as she was a singular force who transformed pain and hallucinations into a timeless, universal language of infinity. I feel a deep connection to her obsessive dedication to art as survival; she once said creating kept her from giving in to her mental illness, and that level of resilience is something I strive for. We share that need to use a repetitive visual language—her infinite polka dots, my minimalist geometry—as a way to build structure, quiet the mind, and reclaim personal space. She blazed a path of uncompromising authenticity, showing me that the most powerful art is born from embracing our deepest internal battles. Her legacy, and her enduring fight, will always inspire my own journey.
