There’s something special about popping out to buy the paper knowing my work is in it. Especially when it’s something as personal as this.

This story in @thetimes is all about how the definition of a local has evolved as Barcelona has become more diverse - and how we all have different perspectives on what makes the city we live in so brilliant.

For this article I enlisted the help of five of the city’s most “style-savvy residents”: @georgiataglietti @martonamg @edyanganiose @negroniman and @johanneslu____ . The result is five fabulous snapshots of five very different versions of Barcelona. Fuerteventura means either strong fortune or strong wind, depending who you believe.

Last month @kliger_senior and I had the great fortune to visit this wild, windy Canary Island: its beaches, windmills, volcanoes, seafood (check out pic 6 for the best fried octopus of my life!) and the rather lovely, recently renovated @iberostar Fuerteventura Palace.

My top hotels of 2025 alert!

This year I decided to travel less but more consciously, choosing trips that felt meaningful and/or fun (most importantly fun).

Highlights included an unforgettable first visit to Japan, a week of fabulosity in The Bahamas, and lots of hopping around Spain and gorging myself on fantastic food (including pit stops at the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Portuguese Michelin Gala!).

And of course I got to experience some pretty incredible hotels, making it almost impossible to pick my favourite stays—but here goes:

10. Portella, Palma: a lovely boutique hotel that feels like an exclusive private residence

9. Conrad Singapore Orchard: takes personalised service seriously so of course they had my favourite food ready when I arrived

8. Hotel Arts Barcelona: obsessed with the new rooms and suites

7. Fouquet’s Paris: très chic but without that Parisian snootiness

6. Four Seasons Bangkok: serious White Lotus vibes at the current number 2 in @50best_hotels

5. Fullerton Bay Singapore: I’ll never forget how they sent me tea, cake and a teddy bear when I was feeling unwell

4. The Okura Tokyo: ticked all my boxes for local vibes and flawless Japanese design

3. Rosewood Baha Mar / SLS Baha Mar: two brilliant resorts in one incredible destination that you’ll never want to leave

2. Capella Singapore: a tropical island paradise and a vibrant city break in one

1. Waldorf Astoria Osaka: somehow knew what I wanted before even I knew what I wanted

A good hotel is a comfortable place to sleep. A great hotel feels like home. Excited for more of this in 2026! by @ikliger
