Weekly recap:

It feels like ages since I last posted anything. Going back to work has left me drained of ideas and energy 🥴 So, why not take the opportunity for a quick reading update?

I've been reading Red Rising for a month and it hasn't quite grabbed me yet. I think it’s because of two things:

1. I didn't know what to expect from this book, but it’s clearly not what I’m actually reading.

2. The writing style reminds me too much of the Caesar texts I used to translate in high school.

I only have the third part left, so I’ll finish it, and I’ll probably end up liking it, but... I just can't seem to connect with it. Honestly, I can't wait to finish it so I can start The Secret History by Donna Tartt. 😐😆 by @il.argia

There are many books I'd love to read this fall, so I tried to narrow the list down to the ones you see in the reel. Even so, I think it's a rather ambitious selection, but oh well, I suppose it'll be fun to compare expectations with reality 😆

What books are you planning to read in the coming months?

A missing girl. A strange neighbor. A sister searching for answers.

I think The Last House on Needless Street is the first book I haven't been able to give a rating to. There were aspects I found interesting (like the different narrative perspectives), yet at the same time, the harshness of the topics made me uncomfortable.

The plot twists didn't really surprise me because I had an idea of what was going on from the start, and the ending... it felt forced to me, like everything wrapped up too easily 🥲

I don't know... if you've read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts 🥴

Buying books while traveling or on a short trip is one of my favorite things to do and, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful memories I bring home 📚 because every time I flip through them, or simply see them on the shelf, it's like going back a little bit to those places, remembering what I experienced and all the good moments I took with me 🏖🌞🌴

El primer mini vlog de lectura que hago ☺🏖 Ese día estuve leyendo "Miss Gentle and the Case of the Very Flat Monk" y fue bastante divertido.

My first mini reading vlog ever! ☺🏖 That day I was reading "Miss Gentle and the Case of the Very Flat Monk" and it was quite fun. I'll probably do a review once I've read a couple more novels.

[EN] (Needful Things)

Does the phrase "the straw that broke the camel's back" ring a bell? Well, let's just say this book describes what would happen if the residents of a small town lost their patience with each other due to a series of events very well orchestrated by one of the most entertaining villains I've encountered this year. I don't want to give you much information because I think it's a book that's best enjoyed the less you know about it.

There are two things I absolutely loved:

🤬 That the terror resides in something so relatable. I think we've all felt at some point that someone has crossed a line they shouldn't have and we've gotten really angry (although I hope not as angry as our protagonists).

📚 The numerous references to other characters in Stephen King's universe (like Cujo). Now I'm itching to read more of his books and short stories.

I was going to give it 4.75 stars because it felt a bit slow a couple of times, but thinking about it, I don't think that's a good enough reason, so...it gets 5 stars! 😚🎊

[English review in the next slide 😚👉🏼]

I was really looking forward to read it and so happy when I saw it was on Prime Reading 😁

It was a very immersive read thanks to the writing style. The descriptions of the forest and the emotions of the protagonists made me practically smell the earth, feel the dampness of the moss, and sense Andrew and Thomas's fear when facing the monsters. And, although much of the terror is based on the creatures, I also saw it in such realistic aspects as extreme codependency, anxiety and fear of rejection.

By the way, the illustrations are fantastic, and that's one of the reasons I'm considering getting a physical copy at some point 👀

I ended up giving it 3.5 stars because there are aspects of the story that didn't quite convince me, for example:

• I struggled to connect Andrew's conflict with the arrival of those creatures.

• I found Lana's character very stereoty by @il.argia

¡Hola, hola!

Hello, hello! How was your week? It's been so hot I've barely left the house. On Tuesday (or Wednesday, I can't remember) I finished reading "Don't Let the Forest In," so I'll post the review this week 😁. Since I was in the mood for something light, I started a romance novel, but, girl...the story made no sense, so I DNF it. Then I started another thriller I'd had my eye on for a while: "The House at the End of Needles Street." I also made some progress with "Needful Things" by Stephen King, although I'm going slower than I'd like.

I have to admit that when I started this book, I thought it was going to be just another romantasy, BUT... well, it's not. And that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much.

Although the beginning felt a bit typical and the pace a little slow, I really started to enjoy it when I realized that the important thing was going to be the political intrigue, not the romance 😚 That ceremony left me like 😳

Something I loved were the references to traditional folklore related to fairies and other magical beings, such as humans not being able to eat the same foods as fairies or having to be careful when making agreements with them.

The ending left me wanting to know what happens next, so I'll continue with the trilogy as soon as I get my hands on the second book 📖

So, how many stars did I give it? 4 stars

PS: I used those sparrows on the journal pages because they reminded me of Cardan and Jude 🍂

It's been years since I last read Dostoevsky. The first time was with The Gambler, and I didn't like it at all. However, White Nights has pleasantly surprised me.

Although it's very short, it's a very intense and complex story that deals with themes such as loneliness, the desperation to be accepted, the fleeting nature of emotions, and the risks of living based on dreams rather than reality itself.

I think it's a book that deserves to be read several times, and in physical form (so you can annotate it) to truly enjoy it. So, I'll probably make room for it on my shelf at some point 😊
