From @jeffsgorman __ One of my favorite parts about the Road to Newport was these big group bike rides that we did before our shows. We partnered with 3 killer bike orgs along the east coast to coordinate these rides - @svbcoalitionbike & @baltimorebikeparty & @secondlifebikes - these organizations are doing the most impactful work in their communities, advocating for bike and walking infrastructure and getting people stoked about riding. We really believe they are changing the culture in such positive ways.In New York we linked up with @joinoutsiders for the day biking all through Manhattan and out to Rockaway Beach. It felt like we were living in another country during these hundred+ person party bike rides. Last summer we set out to bike from Virginia to Rhode Island for our performance at Newport Folk Festival. We had never done anything nearly of this magnitude. We spent months planning and training for the roughly 700 mile journey, which included several shows along the way. Life throws you obstacles, and our musical eco-pilgrimage was full of ‘em. We biked through extreme heat and torrential downpour, climbed thousands of feet in elevation on Appalachian mountains and breezily cruised on east coast boardwalks, had an impromptu group ride with several hundred people in NYC, and grabbed two ferries and a short train after a significant and difficult hand injury. We lived in sweaty spandex and those little clickity bike shoes for 2 weeks. It was incredible. Our message is simple: get out and go. Find your people and hit the streets. Get out of the car and on your bike or your board.We’re super excited to share that the Road to Newport Mini Doc is out this Friday July 17th on our YouTube.
