✨ New chapter, same intention.

After nearly 20 years in education and nonprofit work, I followed my creative side and launched Illume Consulting and Design LLC—a new venture where I bring together my love for art, history, and purpose-driven design.

I launched Illume Consulting and Design LLC to create more than just beautiful spaces—I design environments that are intentional, serene, and spiritually rooted. Spaces that invite the remembrance of God and reflect the quiet beauty of living with purpose.

Grounded in my background in history, art, and education—and newly certified in interior design—this new journey has been a deeply meaningful one.

Follow along as I share designs that honor both form and soul. 🌿

This is how I want a room to feel. A good palette isn’t one note. It’s green still holding on, yellow arriving, and red deepening, all connected at one stem.

At the Alchemy of Color retreat in Istanbul, @drsamirmahmoud taught that color is an unfolding event, not a fixed thing. Yellow says: I have come forth toward you. Green says: I’m here with you.

Now I ask of every space: what is it saying to the people who walk in? Warmth that reaches toward you, and a grounded sense of presence. That’s the difference between a room that’s decorated and one that’s felt.

Unity in multiplicity, not uniformity. Every detail has a purpose, and together they make one harmony. 🍂

Clarity in Vision. Harmony in Space. Purpose in Every Detail.

Royal Blue Mughal Dining, part two.

Last week, we looked up. This week, down below.

A pair of lights still marked in blue tape, measured to the inch around a painting that's staying. A clay pot, twin to the one in the painting. An heirloom plate that already held every color in the room. Brass lattice lamps, just out of the box. And underfoot, a wool sample in the same deep blue, testing how the floor answers the ceiling.

Then the stencil itself, beside the ceiling it became. Hold a mirrored tray up to it, and the pattern comes down to eye level.

The rest stays under wraps until the reveal. Swipe through →

Every room I design begins with one question: what should it feel like the moment you walk in?

For the past six months, I've been asking that of my own studio. Alongside full client projects, I've been quietly working on Illume's rebrand: months of reflection, attention to every detail, and more rounds of back and forth than I'd like to admit.

A new look. The same focus and intention.

Photographed on an inspiring visit to Detroit's Guardian Building.

This room was designed for a family I could drive to. The next one doesn't have to be.

Virtual design is the same drawings, the same sourcing, the same three-word brief, done from wherever you are.

Two chairs facing the room instead of the television.

The family asked for a space that could host. Seating that faces seating is the whole trick, and changes how people talk in a room.

Royal Blue Mughal Dining, part one.

A ceiling is the one surface everyone sees and no one looks at. In this dining room, it’s becoming the reason to look up.

It began as a plain tray ceiling. Now, deep lapis plaster worked by hand, and gold stenciled one panel at a time, the way Mughal ceilings were dressed in pattern and light.

Part two next week, when we come down to the walls. Swipe to see how it’s coming together →

Everything in this room, and the reason it's there.

The final details were sourced largely on one trip to Toronto. Nothing in here was chosen because it matched, it was chosen because it did something the room needed.

This corner is four feet wide.

A musallah doesn't need a room. It needs a direction, a clear floor, and somewhere the Qur'an isn't stacked under something else.

Hanging the curtains is the last thing that happens and the first thing you see.

I still do this part myself. The fall of a panel is not something you can specify from a drawing.
