Sharing my creative process, whilst choosing #excellenceoverperfection along the way!

There's something really amazing about bringing an image to life right before your eyes, and it's especially surreal when you see your own face looking back at you!

I drew this piece last year, inspired by my little mustard seed that finally sprouted almost a month after being planted (on average they should take 5-10 days but clearly mine had other plans).

Hebrews 11:1 describes faith as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Who knew that such a tiny seed would test my faith on such a large scale?

You'll also see my love for the human body slowly but surely begin to infiltrate this page and show up in my work... The roots in this illustration also double up as lungs!

Perfectionism has had me in a pretty tight headlock of late, but I'm delighted to report that I came out on top! Striving after #excellenceoverperfection is definitely an ongoing pursuit, but the subsequent results are so worthwhile.

This entire venture has been a challenging, yet absolutely glorious labour of love. Finally publishing my site after so much hard work behind the scenes was a monumental step, with many many more to follow.

Alright, that's enough from me. Don't forgot to check out the store (currently shipping to UK Mainland only), and tag @illustratedbysabrina in any unboxing videos/photographs you take!

Guys, do you mind if I have a #momentoftransparency for a second? So I really really struggled to post this illustration. I kept finding something that I decided needed to be improved/changed/refined. I nitpick a lot when it comes to my creative work especially, and I can be quite hard on myself in terms of wanting to produce work of a certain calibre #recoveringperfectionist •

Creating this piece was the first time I'd EVER used Adobe Illustrator to create a digital illustration and boyyyy let me tell you, it was a JOURNEY. Countless hours, several all-nighters and an ample amount of tears were all part of the #creativeprocess (I'm self-taught and I found learning from scratch a real challenge), but it was sooo worth it in the end •

What I'm sharing on here was by no means my first attempt. As the months have passed by I found ways to implement the new techniques I learnt along the way. It's far from perfect and I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't my final revision, but I'm really proud of myself for how far I've come. More than that, I'm excited and expectant to see where I end up! •

I never thought I'd say this, but the #creativeprocess can actually be quite fun once you give yourself permission to "enjoy" it. The learning curve that comes with familiarising yourself with new software can be a frustrating one at first, but it's so worth it once you're able to get a new skill under your belt •

I used to do the majority of my work strictly with traditional media when I was younger (this one was initially created using a sheet of paper and a black fineliner pen), but adding different elements such as the coloured background using #adobephotoshop in this instance, can be a great way to combine #traditional and #digital mediums •

So this piece was actually my first ever digital illustration!

The artwork has been revamped here in terms of introducing new colours and using an alternative piece of software, however I initially drew the bird by hand and then brought it to life using #affinitydesigner

Tools/software used:
#pencil
#paper
#scanner
#adobeillustrator

If you came from my personal account (@cherishedsapphires) and you've been following me for a while, then you might just recognise this design! Can you spot where I've incorporated writing in this image? 💭

Ever since I was a child, I've always been completely fascinated by words and their definitions! You'd often find me reading a book or writing a story of some kind. It comes as no surprise then, that I love to incorporate text and calligraphy into my work as part of my signature style... Check out my previous post to see how I incorporated writing into my last piece! •

My name is Sabrina Brown, a Human Biology graduate turned Digital Illustrator, and it's nice to meet you, albeit virtually!

As a #recoveringperfectionist, I started this illustration page to force... I mean gently nudge (😅) myself to share my artwork and the #creativeprocess which accompanies it.

I'm all too aware of the self-sabotage and procrastination that can stunt growth and stop creativity in it's tracks, so I'm being intentional about choosing #excellenceoverperfection
