I won't lie, y'all, I've got overalls on the mind.

Rompers, coveralls, jumpsuits, one-piece suits-- they've got a serios hold on me. They make me feel like a giant toddler or a competent farm lady or a fancy professional or a spaceship captain or a sexy SNL cast member. They're the bee's knees.

Fun fact: I was at the very first Belleville Pride, when it was a little event by Escapades. I was helping my then-husband set up for his band, Common Sense Zero.

I think it's obvious these days why Pride continues to be important, why being politically Queer is absolutely vital in the fight against fascism. But I also think that Pride will continue to matter for generations to come because we still have so much more work to do disentangling who we ARE from who society and capitalism and family expectations want us to be. Queer people still all too often arrive at Pride only after first wading through oceans of shame.

This year, that very same (now ex) husband came out early to deliver and set up the canopy for my first vending event at Pride, before stopping back by with his fiancé to collect my sleepy helper (our son) and enjoy the festivities. How incredibly fortunate I am to have known him for more than twenty years now, to have had my late father know and love him, to be rasing such an incredible son with him.

And how incredibly, unspeakably fortunate I am to still be here, to get to have a woman as brilliant and gorgeous as Lauren spending Pride with me, and to find myself in the position of wanting life, loving life, more than I ever thought was possible.
